A planning retention application has been submitted to LCC for the grund floor facade of this building. If anyone feels stongly that this is an inappropriate design then now is your chance to make a submission.
Is this how empty shop units in Limerick City are going to look from now on ? Converted recently to living accomodation, surely this type of intervention to a facade needs a planing application @LimerickCouncil . Not to mention the 'back' doors and inappropriate pvc windows.

@moranjohna1 @FearStairLmk All the streets in the city centre had stone paved footpaths and a cobbled drain between them and the road. In the majority of the city , the roadway itself had no paving or cobbles and was really like a dirt track, hence the need for bootscrapers outside each house. NLI photos

@mariadonoghue24 This was before all the buildings were protected. I've been rummaging through skips since the 1980's , picking out pieces of Georgian Limerick. Doesn't happen so much now, but i've noticed items go missing in recent years too.

Another fanlight , dating from circa 1840 , came from No. 7 Quinlan St. , #Limerick. A new doorcase was put in around the early 1990's and the old frame and fanlight was thrown in a skip. Covered now in many layers of paint but almost completely intact.

@RobShanahan10 @Snapper77696053 @FearStairLmk Thank you Rob, that really clarifies what is permissable. You'd imagine the 'designer' and the building owner were aware of those facts.

This beautiful Fanlight, dating to 1820-40, came from 46 Henry St., #Limerick . It was saved just before the building was demolished in the 1990s.

@Snapper77696053 @FearStairLmk I find it hard to believe that this facade received planning permission.

If this is how planning works in Limerick City Centre can we now look forward to similar conversions?....
