Honouring Black futures means taking action—not just individually but organizationally. Policies, structures, and institutional practices must be intentionally designed to support and empower Black youth. Identifying concrete ways to challenge, disrupt, and combat systemic anti-Black racism—both in individual practices and organizational policies—is critical. To move from knowledge to meaningful action we asked participants who completed Centering Black Youth Wellbeing: A Certificate on Combatting Anti-Black Racism to reflect on two key questions: 💡 What is one simple thing, in your professional practice, that you will focus on to improve outcomes for Black youth, starting today? ⚡ How can we move from knowledge to action—from learning about anti-Black racism to taking action against it? Our factsheet, 20 ‘Simple Things’ to Centre Black Youth Wellbeing, provides examples of participant responses. This post highlights 10 organizational practices that can be implemented to support and improve Black youth wellbeing. 💬 What is one policy or practice your organization has (or should have) to centre Black youth wellbeing? Share your thoughts in the comments! 🔗 Read more: . . . #CentreBlackYouthWellbeing #BlackYouthVoices #YouthEmpowerment #BlackLeadership #BlackFuturesMonth

This year’s #BlackFuturesMonth theme calls us to honour the legacy of Black leaders while creating pathways for Black youth to thrive. As youth workers, our individual practices play a crucial role in shaping inclusive, safe spaces where Black youth feel heard, validated, and empowered. This work requires meaningful allyship and a deep understanding of the systemic challenges Black youth face every day. To move from knowledge to meaningful action, we asked participants who completed Centering Black Youth Wellbeing: A Certificate on Combatting Anti-Black Racism to reflect on two key questions: 💡 What is one simple thing, in your personal practice, that you will focus on to improve outcomes for Black youth, starting today? ⚡ How can we move from knowledge to action—from learning about anti-Black racism to taking action against it? Our factsheet, 20 ‘Simple Things’ to Centre Black Youth Wellbeing, provides examples of participant responses. On this National Day of Remembrance and Action Against Islamophobia, we reflect on the violent 2017 attack at the Islamic Cultural Centre of Quebec City. Muslim communities in Canada continue to face systemic oppression, harmful stereotypes, and violent acts. Youth workers have a responsibility to understand and address Islamophobia through critical self-reflection and meaningful allyship, actively working to create safer and more inclusive spaces. Our Evidence Brief, "Nine Practices to Confront Islamophobia in Youth Work," provides actionable strategies to support Muslim youth, centring their experiences and voices while fostering safe, inclusive, and equitable environments. ( For more resources, explore the Challenging Islamophobia Collection on YouthREX's Knowledge Hub. These tools address the challenges facing Muslim youth in Ontario and support youth workers to challenge to Islamophobia. (
