It's not a conspiracy. Library workers have been shouting about this for decades, and especially recently. It's just that non-library people have largely not cared until now.
My conspiracy theory is that fascists actually don’t give a hoot about “inappropriate” content in books; they’re attacking libraries and librarians because libraries are vital spaces that foster community. And fascists fear community. It’s a scheme to shut down public libraries.

Yep. I'd go one step further and say AI/genAI impedes *all* learning. It impedes critical thinking, synthesis, analysis, research, citation, writing, every single part of the learning process.
This is probly obvious and I'm just slow on the uptake but I think part of what's going on w/ conversations about AI and writing instruction is that a student can either use AI or learn to write and there's not really a middle ground there. The technology impedes learning writing

I lose so many readers in that jump between middle school and high school. Many kids don't want to go from Wimpy Kid to 18 year olds fighting revolutions or falling in live. We need more older MG/younger YA and in more genres.
where are the funny books? where are the reader-nurturing pipelines? if someone enjoys like Diary of a Whimpy Kid or Captain Underpants, what are they supposed to read next when they age out of that group? where are the graphic novels? why is YA dominated by girl MCs and romance?

"No romance" is the number one thing my teens are asking for as well. They don't mean they're puriteens and hate sex but that they're tired of seemingly every YA having a romance main or subplot. They want other stories!

I just read through a Booklist Starred Review book, and was thinking, "this is really not what my kids are asking me for. It's for adults, with a 19 year old protagonist". My teens are asking for less sex & romance. Which startled me.
