日本のゲーム業界で働いてるオランダ人。Ares Breathesというレトロホラーゲームも自分で作ってる。Dutch he/him working in the Japanese games industry as a programmer. Making Ares Breathes in free time.
I've finally clicked the green button and launched Ares Breathes' steam page. Here's a trailer I made to go along with it. Retweets n wishlists and all that stuff appreciated of course.
Probably should've done this earlier but oh well. Link in the thread.
When I explained to my gf that I spent a week testing the performance cost of motion blur on grass she asked if gamers really deserve this level of effort and I had no response
Hey
#PitchYaGame
!
I'm making a classic RE-esque static camera tank controlled horror/exploration game with a focus on environmental interactions and the physicality of your heavy robot suit.
Manage your vitals to survive in this place where even the air is out to kill you.
@cdbunker2
The gamers NEED a multidimensional graph showing the influence of velocity buffer output timing, z pass masking timing and type of foliage being used
Still pretty happy with how subtle this effect is, making the fog less strong in the middle of the screen. You can see the furthest piece of broken road when the camera is aimed at it but can't depending on the angle. I can set the strength of this effect individually per camera
Doing something unprecedented and actually posting screenshots for
#screenshotsaturday
instead of a video.
From my
#survivalhorror
game about exploring a destroyed Mars colony.
Added a few more lightprobes but some parts still look kinda weird
Also with music this time, not sure if this will actually be the music here but I do like it
A HUGE thank you to everyone who's watched, contributed & spread the word about Games To Get Excited About Fest!
The amount of positivity around it has been overwhelming. You all rock!♥️

My super unsubtle sledgehammer lights are now a bit more sophisticated in that they scale in intensity depending on the camera distance and strength of the current sandstorm.
Happy and sad to announce that I'll start a new full time job from next week, so progress on Ares Breathes will probably slow down while I adjust.
It seems like it'll be a fairly interesting job though, excited to find out what it'll be like. A little nervous, too.
I kind of love how unapologetically Armored Core AC6 is. I'm just selecting missions from a list, killing some dudes, and going back to the list. No hubs, no NPCs to talk to. Just mission, shop, mission, shop, mission.
I haven't played a game this mission list based in years.
The world design in the ER dlc almost makes me mad. How can humans make something this tight and connected in a big team. How does their pipeline look. I just can't believe this.
This guy follows me last night, think to myself "I wonder how long that's gonna last". Wake up today and he unfollowed me.
Not sure what I retweeted in my sleep but I bet it was a great take.
Was thinking about what to do for the main menu screen of the demo, and every idea seemed like more effort than is worth doing right now. Just realized I could probably just throw buttons on here and save myself the trouble of loading in and out of this scene at game start anyway
Separated indoors and outdoors stuff for memory management reasons but hadn't quite updated my respawn system yet.
Also, I like his arm. That one IK target isn't keeping up with the respawn movement apparently.
@RobinPoedev
This one has always made me mad. Miya is just being an old man here. Which is fine, he is an old man. But the people taking this and pretending he's doing anything but being an asshole to some students or engineers that were just excited about a piece of tech they worked on...
So far I just had a specific spot where interactive objects can be grabbed, but for big things like these screens that didn't really work so I made them arbitrarily grabbable along lines or simple primitives.
Playing morrowind for the first time in like 15? years???
Anyway I love the classic camera depth texture culling that doesn't account for actual world depth
Is this an occupational disease?
Hey

I'm me and I like robots and shaders. I'm making a static camera tank controlled survival horror game set in a destroyed colony on Mars, Ares Breathes.
Also open for programming work, I have about 4 years of experience in the Japanese games industry.
Started working on how the different enemy limbs act when damaged. When a leg is damaged it can't be lifted fully any more and lifts up dust as it is dragged along the ground.
Still more to do but it's a nice start, I already feel bad for the little guy.

Oh,
#pitchyagame
is on again?
I'm making a static camera survival horror exploration game with a focus on environmental interaction.
I wrote my own procedural animation system and use it for movement, combat, turning levers and pulling stuff apart.
The IGN interview with Miyazaki and Yamamura is legit just
>Hi can you tell us that Armored Core is like Souls?
It's not, it's AC
>But what did you learn from Souls?
We're trying to make it AC and we're looking at past AC games
>How about Sekiro?
Nah it's AC
中に入れるようになったけど、まだカメラとかの調整が必要ですね。主人公のスポットライトも邪魔、、
You can now actually go into the church. Still needs work on the indoors camera, especially how the main character's light makes everything hard to see.

Was thinking about how to link up my movement scripts and the cable to make sure it has a max range a bunch last night without it all becoming a noodly mess...
and this morning I just realized I can just plop down an invisible circular collider when you pick the cable up. Wow.
Not the most exciting footage, but you now get warned when you're running out of oxygen and can actually die!
Although the UI is still making the hull part red which I'll have to fix
Going to the countryside for new years so this will probably be the last progress post of the year. Playing around with secondary motion on the armor flaps, reacting to the procedural movement of the legs.
Happy new year everybody.
教会の内部を作り始めた。建物の内部を作るのは初めてなのでまだ色んな調整しなきゃいけない。
Making the inside of the church. It's my first time making an indoors area like this so I'm having to make a lot of new decisions and designs.

Very basic demo continue function is in, it's basically just a tutorial skip for now but good enough.
Also a bunch of sound effects that I could swear are in didn't play, gonna look into that
>For a mech game
When has a mech game ever had a budget. Like point me to a single dollar actually spent on a mech game. The entire genre is just sweat and metal.
I was making a pipe and had trouble figuring out how to get a nice joint, and suddenly found the Spin tool. Blender really is an inexhaustible treasure trove of features.
