In all my years of working on snakebite mitigation, I have never come across such a bizarre case.A snakebite victim in Bihar dies due to detention by the police. The victim was hurrying to the hospital but the local police assumed he was fleeing arrest after consumption of liquor

Snakebite mortality is for real and devastates the entire family. Here is a poster with voices of families left behind to fend for themselves.
We recently published a paper on death by snakebite compensation given in Madhya Pradesh between 2020-22 (two years). The illustrative poster captures stories of a few families that were interviewed during the study. #ISAD24 Here's the link to the paper.

Hearing experiences from people on the ground is important to strategize where to put the effort to lessen the burden. A Sarpanch (village headman) speaking passionately about shunning faith healing can be far more effective than outsiders speaking the same thing.
