We are
#excited
that our Taster Morning for prospective Sixth Formers is going ahead in person on Saturday 15 January 2022. Check out the details and book your place here
It takes a lot of hands behind the scenes to keep a school running for key workers' children. Thank you to our cleaners for helping to keep us all clean and safe. (The catering team's hash browns were nice at break, as well!)
#unseenheroes
You'll have seen the NHS call for goggles. Ours have gone to Dr Laura Reid, Bellbrooke Surgery; Dr Jonathan Reid, Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, Pinderfields; Michelle Alderson, Chapel Allerton Hospital Orthopaedics; Dr Shahid, East Park Medical Centre, so far.

@PHGSDT
Our D & T teachers are making scrubs and scrubs laundry bags for NHS and Care Home workers, as part of a national campaign. The laundry bags mean workers can get changed out of work clothes and wash them without anyone in their home coming into contact with the clothes. 👏
#proud
We are very
#proud
to be in the top 20 state schools in the North in the
@thesundaytimes
list. (Which also shows we are in the top 9% in the country!) We are particularly proud as a non-selective school, representing our whole community.

We are
#delighted
to be named as "Comprehensive School of the North" in the
@thetimes
Parent Power Guide. Our students and staff have worked so hard together to achieve this - we could not be prouder. We look forward to congratulating them at Celebration Evening next week.
We feel quite emotional - as you walk around school (round the one way system, obviously), there are children in classrooms being taught by teachers. We've heard Languages, Science, Maths & more! And the students are all trying so hard to follow the systems.
#lovely
#WelcomeBack
See you soon, everyone. Keep an eye on the website for any updates and make sure we have accurate contact details for you, in case we need to be in touch. Stay safe and well.

Happy 100th Birthday, everyone! Today is the 100th anniversary of the re-opening of Prince Henry's and the start of our journey to Farnley Lane and being the modern school we are today. We'll have lots of celebrations in the year - don't forget to join in!
#PHGS100th
Congratulations to all our Year 13 students who are celebrating today - you have done brilliantly. What a talented lot, with great futures ahead of you. Well done for all your hard work and thank you for being part of Prince Henry's - we will miss you!
#proud
They're here! Full return to school - tick. In school testing - underway. And it's just stopped raining (briefly, anyway). So
#lovely
to see everyone back - we have missed the face to face interaction and teachers can't wait to teach everyone in person in the classroom.
So, there's a TikTok challenge to try from our PE Dept (we have to say that Mrs Hollywood and Mr Atkin have done a fine job!). Are you taking part? We are practising furiously....
It was lovely today, walking (carefully distant) around at lunchtime (the one at the normal time). There were a lot of happy young people in the sunshine, playing or chatting with their friends in their bubble. Just enjoying a bit of normality in school.
#FeelingGood
What a nice card from the Palliative Care Unit at St James Hospital (
@LeedsHospitals
), to say thank you to our Yr 9 textiles students, who made syringe driver bags for medication for cancer patients. Year 9 put lovely individual messages to the patients - this is lovely too.
Well, that's the first week of the new term over. We could not be
#prouder
of you all. Have a good weekend and get ready to try out Week B.... We are sure you've got the hang of the one way system by now, so you'll be able to find all your classrooms next week!

Day

Over Halloween, spare a thought (& maybe a pound or two!) for
@PHGSSixthForm
student Jonas Lord, who is cycling for 12 hours straight to raise money for Help the Heroes, because he was worried that people wouldn't be able to fundraise with poppies.

On the day that would have been our

Year 13 Prom, we say Goodbye and raise a glass to send them on their way! Watch the video here:

Our fantastic PE provision ended the week being recognised at Leeds Sports Awards. As we've seen, our students are offered amazing opportunities by this team (which includes staff from other faculties & volunteers in extracurricular activities).

Our U15 cricketers were superb today and won the Yorkshire Cup Final by 148 runs. They will go on to represent Yorkshire next summer in the national competition. Ethan Lowans got 95 runs and Alex Texel picked up man of the match with 6 wickets for 20 runs.
#proud
We just need to share the slight leap of joy in our heart at the sight of Mrs Ellis coming to book coaches for
@PHGSDuke
@DofE
expeditions. Actual trips for actual students. 😍 (6 expeditions in 6 weeks! Someone bring Mrs Ellis a cake!)
Well done to our Year 12 student who has been digging out cars and pushing them up the Chevin! A lady has just rung to say you are an absolute star. Lots of people off on their holiday flights, thanks to you.
#proud
@PHGSSixthForm
We are extremely
#proud
of Hannah Pears, Y8, who won Harrogate & District Young Volunteer of the Year in half term! She gets up early every Saturday morning to volunteer with her dad to support children on the autistic spectrum through horse therapy at Autism Angels.

We can't have our Easter Egg fundraising raffle this year (sad face) but we've found a good use for the donated eggs. We've sent them off to the Food bank, so that people can enjoy them. Cracking idea....
Ned Gallagher Thompson came 2nd in the national Fell championship race and is 3rd overall in the FRA U15 championships! Charlotte Chambers came 3rd and is 4th overall in the U17 category for the season - they are two of the countries best fell runners at the moment!!
#proud
Congrats to Harry Hepworth, Y11, who came 2nd in the U16 Futures Cup in Austria against gymnasts from across the world. The Leeds Team came 3rd, beating the German and GBR national teams! (Not bad for a guy who had a pot on his arm 4 weeks ago...!)
#henrysgottalent
Congratulations to Charlotte Chambers, Year 7, who won the Bronze medal at the English Schools' National Fell Running Championships this weekend. Amazing achievement!
#henrysgottalent
We don't like to boast, but we are in the top 200 sporting schools in
@schoolsportmag
! (That's the top 5%, if you're counting...) And there's a great article featuring Y9 boys' rugby team. And that's without the huge participation in clubs & over 400 students representing school!
Congratulations to Abigail Taylor
@ALTGOLF
, Yr8, who finished 5th in the English Schools Regional Golf Championship and qualified for the National Championships in a couple of weeks. Good Luck - we hope you make to the international stage!
So, we were popping round school taking photos for a virtual tour for Year 6 when we came across these lovely flowers. So we thought we'd share them, as they may not be here when you get back!

We have just had a call from a member of the public who lives in Sawley, to say that she has just had the pleasure of meeting some of our

Silver Expedition students. She says they are a real credit to the school.

Just one more day of in school testing to go - any guesses on how many tests we've done so far? Just over 3600.... Thank you to our amazing team of staff and volunteers - and to all the students for taking part so efficiently!
Walking home from school, I can confirm that everyone seems to be enjoying their extra curricular activities in Art (snowman building), PE (sledging and, erm, dodgeball) and Drama ('Aaaargh, that went down the back of my neck!').
#enjoy
Thank you, generous rugby supporters! The Boxing Day Match raised a staggering £4615, which will be split evenly between the 1st XV Pitch Drainage Project & the Teenage Cancer Trust. Cheque presentations to PHGS and the TCT on Sat 3rd Mar at Otley RUFC ahead of their game.
#proud
A two minute silence held very respectfully by our Staff and Students, for Remembrance. We hold ours at a time when the students are all in lessons. One PE class marked the occasion by taking a photograph after the silence.
#LestWeForget
We have been so busy with snow, we have yet to celebrate the amazing achievement of the U15 Boys' Rugby Team, who are off to London to play in the final of the National Bowl!!! Wish them luck tomorrow.

#wow
Okay, Year 11 and Year 13 - you've got this! Good luck with your GCSEs and A Levels and remember - you've done the work, so now is the time to show it off. Just take it one question at a time.
#hardworkpaysoff
Just a few of the happy faces from today. Well done,
@PHGSSixthForm
, it's been a long road but you thoroughly deserve your results - the results of a great deal of hard work in very difficult circumstances. Enjoy your futures and come back and tell us all about it!
#proud
Wow! Our students have raised an amazing £7129 for
@TeenageCancer
and
@CryptLeeds
in their charity fundrasining this year. Fantastic! Well done for all your hard work.
Year 13 ESEP

Well, what a day that was to end this exciting week! Hope you all enjoy the snow this weekend (even if it did cause us a few problems in school today - it never rains but...😂). Well done for working so hard this week - you are fab!

Introducing the

Testing booths being finished off as well, lots of distancing measures in place. Don't forget your face covering and a pen! Watch those emails - lots more info about school re-opening coming out later.

What a start to the week - we have just received this news from Japan! Alexander in Year 7 has been competing at the World Junior Aikido Championships. He has completed his events and has won a Bronze medal for

And a final tweet for this week. We cannot express how
#proud
we are of everyone in the Prince Henry's Community. Staff, students, parents and carers - everyone is working together to do their best and support each other as we move through into this next phase.

Well - look what Mr Green has been up to in the holidays. It's really rather fabulous! Massive Leeds United centenary mural painted on house near Elland Road
Welcome back to the remote Summer Term, everyone. We may not be in the same physical space but we are still together in spirit! Enjoy the sunshine, take regular breaks and keep your mind and body healthy. As Max Ehrmann wrote - "It is still a beautiful world."
Congratulations to Charlotte Chambers in Year 8 - she was top in the Year 8 & 9 Cross Country in West Yorkshire and joint 27th nationally! Amazing achievement.
#proud
As Ms Sheriff said, there will be lots of information coming out shortly, but here's a quick idea you might like to explore with your child. Do they know where their uniform is? Does it fit? And how about those shoes....

😃
Happy half term! We could not be
#prouder
of you all. Thank you to our students, parents & carers, teachers & other staff - what a team we are! The Office will be open during half term, if you need us, but make sure you get a break & refresh yourself, ready for next half term.
Year 7 are doing so well! Lots of smiley faces and concentration following the one way system with their Form Tutors. And don't they look smart.😀

More success to report today! Charlotte Chambers (you will have heard of her cross country exploits on here before) has been selected for the British and Irish Mountain Fell Running Team.
#wow
There is an amazing hubbub coming from the corridor where they are collecting
#alevels2023
results! It sounds pretty happy.... Well done, everyone. It's an amazing achievement after the last few years.
#proud
Have a lovely Easter break everyone. Eat chocolate, see friends in gardens - and if you have to do some revision for assessments, make sure you take lots of breaks and get some rest. Relax, everybody - well done, it has been another strange term, but we are very
#proud
of you.
Well, our Yr 10 gymnast Harry Hepworth had a busy holiday, representing England in 2 competitions! Firstly in Norway, where Team England won the Silver Medal. Then the Home Nations Competition. The Team won Gold, he was 4th all around & crowned Champion on Rings.
#wow
Well, that was an interesting moment. Contractors set the fire alarm off by accident but Year 6 were amazing! They joined our 1500 students in filing calmly and quietly on to the hardstanding and were all accounted for.

#calmandcool
Congratulations to Lucas Ellis, Y11. After injury and a difficult season last year, Lucas made his first races of the season count with a 1st place in slalom and a 2nd in SuperG!

Well done to everyone who took part in the Leeds Schools Cross Country. Everyone showed a great team spirit, with individual 2nd places for Charlotte Chambers (U13 girls) & Freddie Roden (U15 boys). U13 & U15 boys won the team competition, & U13 girls came 4th in a strong field!
Frankly, we have a lot of news today. There are students swimming in the Chippindale pool!! School swimming lessons are back on - that's so good to see. Public swims will take a bit longer to get back on, due to recruitment issues for LCC, but we'll get there.
#bearwithus
Well, it been a busy day getting ready for Year 10 and Year 12 coming in next week, these are just a few of the signs! We'll show you more tomorrow.
