she/her. NOT SPOILER-FREE. Mostly BSD and Dazai. Sometimes whining about life and asking for free ice creams🍦 Check my Carrd for links to translations ⬇️
I have created a BSD calendar for new releases and other events that I think is accessible for oversea fans.

There is a campaign in Japan right now, that for every bsd-related books you purchase, you will receive a random letter from a character.
This is Oda's.
<Photo taken by my friend>
Reading this interesting interview from the magazine 季刊エス and there is this part where Asagiri talks about his target audiences of bsd.
“This story is not for people who are good at living.”
Hi-res version of the cover.
According to the article, side A and side B will be published as one book. There will be some revisions but no new contents compared to the novelty versions.
- What is the 2nd reason for you to choose me?
- Because if I didn’t choose you, you would be silenced by Dostoevsky or Gogol after this match is over.
The way Dazai is described in the novel is sad yet beautiful, like his eyes was described as a pair of open wounds on his face, from which the darkness is peeping out.
Meet
#AX2023
Guest of Honor Kafka Asagiri, creator of Bungo Stray Dogs, one of the most iconic manga and anime properties of the past decade. Witness him delve into his background as a storyteller and discuss the creation of Bungo Stray Dogs in an insightful conversation!
In the new expo’s comment, Asagiri admits that he likes Sigma so much that he decided to bring Sigma into Mersault even though it was not his original plan, and that now he feels “a little sorry about that” 😂

Interview with Asagiri and Harukawa in エス季刊 magazine (a thread)
I will post as I translate, it is very long so it may take a few days and maybe 50 tweets until I finish, but bear with me.
(1/?)
After reading Asagiri’s comment in the expo, I finally understand the meaning of this scene. It’s written on the page that no POLICE’d believe the ADA is innocent. But here Tachihara finally realizes he actually belongs to the Mafia, which frees him from the curse of the page.
Fyodor's letter
(He mentioned celebration becuz this letter was given out on the occasion of the manga's 10th year anniversary)
I don't have the card but someone has kindly shared it in the tweet below.
[Translation] Asagiri's afterwords for The Day I Picked up Dazai novel.
I find it pretty interesting, because it is not really about the novel but more on his thoughts about writing.
🧵(1/3)
According to Asagiri, the fact that Tachihara is an undercover cop had been decided since his first appearance. That’s why Harukawa didn’t draw him with the “mafia color” from the beginning. Also, the Hunting Dogs’ colors are green because Harukawa matched them with Tachihara’s.
Just to make it clear, almost everything we do in the fandom rn, including posting manga panels, sharing raws, making edits, translating magazines etc., is violating the copyrights no matter if it’s for profit or not. So we should be happy officials still decide to look over it.
Now that it’s confirmed that Asagiri is aware of the number of overseas followers he has, how about we overseas followers consider behaving more properly under his tweets too?
During the BSD expo, there is a room that looks like the ADA office and a monitor screen playing SS4’s ending, but the room shown in the video is the actual live image of this room. If you step inside this setting, you can see urself on the screen together with the characters.
If bilibili wanted to spice up the translation that much they should have done it here too cuz Atsushi was saying the exact same thing Dazai said to Chuuya 🫢
So in summary, the official acc has 2 requests for us bsd fans:
- Refrain from posting unrespectful contents about the irl authors
- Be considerate of others who are looking forward to the anime and other contents when replying to or qrt-ing official tweets (aka no spoilers)
In the Animage magazine interview, when Kensho Ono (Akutagawa’s VA) was asked about the reason why Akutagawa saved Atsushi’s life on the ship, this is what he said.
Tbh I have a strong faith that Dazai is gonna survive, but I am still on the verge of tearing up at the sincerity and determination in his eyes when he tried to save Sigma and all of the selfless acts he did in this chapter 🥲🥲 Babe I’m sure Odasaku will be proud of u 🥲🥲

Asagiri’s comment on Atsushi and Akutagawa’s relationship and their changes through the seasons in Animage magazine’s latest issue.
The magazine can be bought online here:
Someone in the Japanese fandom pointed out that in Dark Era, Dazai had realized Ango was lying ever since he saw the bag and asked him what time the deal ended and that was why he insisted on taking a picture together that day… and now I can’t stop thinking about it 🥲
I keep thinking about how Dazai doesn’t want to bother others with his death. It was even more obvious when he was younger. He was ready to die alone while putting up a strong front so many times in this novel it hurts.
When talking about Kunikida’s character design, Harukawa mentions that Kunikida’s ribbon in BEAST is blue because in the BEAST world he is not traumatized by the Azure Messenger incident 🥲
Rough translation of the text (a thread)
1. Fyodor:
“Dazai-kun, you look better with your hair tucked behind your ear.”
A student from a nearby school.
Transfered from abroad.
He is nicknamed “Demon” and no one knows what he is thinking.
A member of the “Apple Suicide Club”.
For the first time in a while, someone actually gives Dazai things he wants to know, places he wants to go and stories he wants to talk about. And to me, that is so precious for words.
Asagiri-sensei’s New Year tweet. He said happy new year to everyone and that even though there will be the anime and the movie and a lot of other things this year as usual, his main focus stays on the manga and he has finished the plot to the end of the Decay of Angel arc.
The reactions on the latest manga chapter surprised me. Like, do you really expect the manga to wrap up that last episode in one or two chapters? Each anime episode covers at least 3-4 full length chapters not to mention the last ep is especially rushed with many details skipped.
Can’t believe I’m saying this but I am pretty sure Fyodor is gonna pay in the next chapter for mocking Dazai’s ability of utilizing Chuuya’s skill. No Fyodor, when it comes to that u do not stand a chance.
Last night, Asagiri-sensei tweeted about him trying to dressing cool by combining nice clothes and lame socks (somehow he only nailed the lame part). Oda’s stage actor rt-ed it, saying it’s “somewhat beautiful” and then sensei replied to him in Dazai’s pov🥲
I always wondered why in Dark Era anime, they cut off the part where Oda talked to Gide about Dazai being a child too smart and left alone in his own world. And recently after I learned that they DID record that script but only for the episode preview, my WHY even got bigger🥲
I love this art from BEAST to death but friendly reminder that Oda actually never sat down next to Dazai. Dazai was pointing to it but Oda ended up sitting one seat away from him, “just in case”.
BEAST Movie subtitle is here!
I have put it in the same folder with the Dark Era stage subtitles I made earlier so those who are interested can dl it too.
I have also wrote a few notes in the 2nd picture so I’d appreciate it if u could read them.
Tks💕
Reading the interview with Luck Life’s vocalist is interesting. So it turned out that Namae wo yobu is somewhat an Atsushi song, Kaze ga fuku machi is inspired by Oda & Dazai, Bokura is about everyone, Lily is inspired by Chuuya & The Sheep and Shirushi is about Ranpo & Fukuzawa.
[Thread] Someone sent me a very old interview with Asagiri and Harukawa back in 2013 and I have a long train to ride from now so I’m gonna translate it for those who are interested (Note that it is from 10 years ago when bsd just started so some info might not apply now)
