8 yrs ago today, we started a podcast having met in person only once at a Nashville coffee shop (pictured). We started The Popcast as a hobby. Now it’s a job, a company with staff, a weird life that went from 212 listens on day one to 17m and counting. You made all that possible.
So many listeners have kindly asked about us in Birmingham because of the deadly tornados today. Lots of damage around the metro area, but we are safe and sound. 😎
One year ago today. We’re still owed more than $7,500 in ticket revenue. The one year anniversary gift is paper, so we’d love The Patio Theater to gift us that.😎
We’re celebrating 10 million downloads today. 😎 This is an email conversation we had on the Thursday after we published our first episode.🎙
Today, we’re still impressed and encouraged by every interaction. Thank you for every single time you’ve pressed play.
The original Best Friend of the Show is
@erinhmoon
. 🎟 Erin produced our first live show in 2016 for a bottle of tequila. 🗄In 2017, we hired her for 10 hours of work a month.⛰ In 2019, she took a leap of faith and made The PMG her day job. 🎂
We are so glad she was born.
Seven years ago today we launched a hobby. Because of your listens and likes and comments and follows and subscribes and actual dollars, we now have a job. High five.🖐
We educate you on things that entertain, but don’t matter. But some things DO matter. Pop culture can have a powerful place in that education. As we continually dismantle our own racism, we’ve found a selection of films, TV, books, podcasts to be helpful.
November means thanksgiving and gratitude. Plus, it means

On Wednesdays We Popcast. Even when we’re brand new. Welcome to the world our newest favorite listener, Everett Allan Hill. Our beloved COO Christiana Hill and her husband Kyle gave Silas a little brother on June 21. Note: His mom’s birthday is today. She is a Cancer.🦀😏🎂

All of this is possible because of you. Every follow, download, like, share, comment, subscribe, and actual cash money from your wallet has made this more than we could have sketched on any white board. Thank you. 😎 4/4

episode drop I think of when they said they had something like 6 months or a year of episodes planned out. Unless the world goes sideways. And here we are.
Well. That was dramatic. VIP tickets sold out in less than 2 minutes. In the first two hours, we sold NINETEEN HUNDRED tickets. Thank you 😎 BFOTS - there are plenty of great seats left - snag yours at
Matt James, who is known by Bachelor Nation as Tyler Cameron's best friend and business partner, has been tapped as ABC's first Black 'Bachelor,' following days of renewed pressure about

The week we launched our show we had 412 downloads. We emailed each other because we could not believe the number was that high. Earlier this month, we hit 6 million downloads. We still can’t believe it. Thank you for each time you’ve pressed play. ▶️

To everyone who stayed up late, woke up early, gave up their Sunday afternoon… we are incredibly sorry that the Love is Blind Live Reunion did not turn out as we had planned. We're filming it now and we'll have it on Netflix as soon as humanly possible. Again, thank you and
In this milestone 500th episode, we’re celebrating with "The NOs of Podcasting." We collected listener-submitted complaints on all things podcasting. Plus, we take a cringey trip down memory lane and revisit some of our own Popcasting nos.

Ep. 245, NOs of Motherhood. “My MIL only had a few days to live. She told us to add another child to our brood...a GIRL. She told my husband to “save up his stuff” before trying to conceive. She looked him dead in the eye and said “DON’T WASTE IT, GREG.”
After investing $29 over 8 yrs in our website, we decided to hire professionals for . The Happyland Creative team took our weirdness and diva demands and made a magical home for us on Al Gore’s internet including a long-awaited robust green lights catalog.
🧵 This is us when we launched The Popcast on August 14, 2013. We’re celebrating our 8th birthday all week and up first is a gift to our BFOTS. (Best Friends of the Show) 1/5
When our team meets, the first agenda item is “Trumpets.” We know the value of remembering accomplishments before tackling huge To Do lists. Let’s look at 2022: 🧵 1/8
Our new inspiration wall. The neon sign “Protect The Vibe” is our motto before recording. However, Jamie ignores it by reading headlines from about missing babies and dogs giving their lives for their owners. Also, that’s Marlo Moon…another inspiration.
A teacher shared with us “In my high school English classes, it took all of only 2 Fridays for your ‘Let’s Do Some LIGHTS!’ trend to take off. My students look forward to it every week - we use it as a quick write and sharing time, and we all love it!” 😎
Jamie’s parents just celebrated 50 years of marriage. Jamie’s Dad Chuck is on the right. Jamie’s mom Jan bought hair for her wedding day. They were married by Jamie’s redheaded uncle and pastor Jerry. Despite what could have been a ginger curse, they lived happily ever after.
Knox is moving. To plan ahead, we planned to record last week. But Jamie had kidney surgery and then a serious post-surgical infection that required her to go back in. Not to violate her HIPAA, but she cried a lot. TMYK will be later this week. Thank you for persevering with us🙏
