@AvaisRasheed @GlombikM It would be an interesting experiment for sure. Maybe it would change expression levels and then increase phenotypic diversity? Not sure!

@OldTiredGrumpy @GlombikM I think you're right and it could be tricky to investigate but we'll give it a go.

@OldTiredGrumpy @GlombikM We think a substantial proportion are genetic effects (~70% of triads' HEB associated with SNPs, for triads with genotype data). But we cannot rule out epigenetic influence too. My bet would be both so epigenetic regulation is our next step.

Also check out our companion preprint where we found similar within-chromosome regulation of homoeolog expression bias using a panel of ~400 wheat accessions:

Ever wonder what happens if you knock down DNA methylation in a plant with a big genome? Does chaos ensue? Read our latest work on wheat MET1-1 to find out below ⬇️ Thanks to all authors, especially first authors @Delfi_Dorussen and Sam Burrows for superb teamwork & leadership.

Thank you for the invitation! It was an honour to give the Enid MacRobbie Women in Science lecture today and a pleasure to visit the department (and some of the professors) who inspired my interest in plant sciences ☺️🌾🪴🌳🌴

Many thanks to @PhilippaBorrill for her wonderful talk on the power of polyploidy for crop improvement today. We were delighted that she could present this year’s 'Enid MacRobbie Women in Sciences' lecture as part of our weekly seminar series. 🧬🌾🌱
