📢Proud to announce my new open-access publication!📢 Increased political polarization is detrimental to human rights as opposing individuals or groups engage in hostile interactions over political differences, promoting vilification and dehumanizing discourse. 1/3

Highly recommended! This book, although concise, covers a wide range of valuable aspects for comps, including the true purpose of comps, meeting professors' expectations, cultivating a professional mindset, mastering the literature, and improving analytical thinking.

I find that the ‘‘naming and shaming’’ activities of Human Rights Organizations (HROs) retain their effect of increasing the likelihood of humanitarian intervention, even when accounting for a geopolitical factor (i.e., being a United States ally). 2/2

In "The Political Origins of Our Economic Discontents" by Peter Hall (2013), the author conducts a historical analysis of the institutional frameworks that shaped the economic success and response to economic challenges in developed political economies during two key eras: 1/7

High entry costs: When the entry costs are extremely high, even a reliable A finds that these costs outweigh the benefits of coop. As a result, A does not join the institution, and B does not cooperate. This is suboptimal because it deters even potential cooperating members. 5/10

The fervent dialogue between Mearsheimer (1994) and Keohane and Martin (1995) illustrates a great debate that echoes with major institutional theories in international relations. 1/8

2. Acceleration in the Process of De-Dollarization: Both Russia and China have shown an interest in reducing their reliance on the US dollar in international trade. China's rise could possibly accelerate the process of de-dollarization. 6/8

B’s belief about A’s reliability can be low or high. The size of signaling cost reflects the expense that A has to bear for joining the institution. Cost may be low, moderate, or high. Depending on the combination of B's belief and signaling cost, three equilibria arise. 4/10

In Germany, by contrast, the structure of political institutions (e.g., constitutional rules and corporatist policy networks) provided the government with an ability to hold the line on spending. 8/13

Bravo Jacob! It is a great summary of such an extensive work, for sure. However, let's spice it up by adding some critiques. While Lijphart's analysis comprehensively examines various democratic systems, I have a few points to argue regarding the empirical model. 1/9

I just re-read (parts of) Lijphart's "Patterns of Democracy" (2012) for something I am working on. In this 🧵, I will offer a fairly detailed summary of this truly seminal work in comparative politics, which, I hope, some of you may find useful. 1/n
