How do you know elections are near in Slovenia? The left revives another politically motivated trial against Janez Janša. Today, outraged Slovenians protested against krivosodje (unjust judiciary), demanding an end to judicial abuse for political gain. This time, Janša is accused of selling a property in 2005 (!) at an “inflated” price—a claim debunked by independent court appraisals and verifiable online. Yet, the judiciary continues to weaponize this case, just as it did in the infamous Patria trial in 2014. Back then, a conviction just weeks before elections derailed @strankaSDS campaign, only for the Constitutional Court to overturn it after the damage was done. Now, the same tactics are being deployed, with courts fast-tracking this case to ensure a conviction aligns perfectly with the 2025/26 elections. Slovenia’s judiciary, still untouched by meaningful reform, is a tool for left-wing political forces. Judges linked to ruling parties preside over cases against their opponents, eroding public trust and the very foundations of democracy. The EU’s silence is deafening. While institutions obsess over rule-of-law issues in Poland and Hungary—where no political prisoners or blatantly fabricated trials exist—they ignore Slovenia’s judiciary spiraling into a political weapon. The time for silence is over. Slovenians are waking up, and Europe must as well. This is not just about @JJansaSDS; it’s about the rule of law and democracy in the EU. Enough is enough.
