UPDATE from Leicestershire County Council on the A511 Growth Corridor Scheme: "Dear Mr. Bedford MP I am writing with regards to your email dated 15th January 2025 which you sent to Ann Carruthers concerning an enquiry you received from your constituents. The enquiry was regarding the safety of the Fieldhead roundabout, and the long wait times they had experienced at this junction during peak times. As part of the A511 Major Road Network (MRN) growth corridor improvements, we are proposing to introduce part-time traffic signals at the Field Head roundabout, which we anticipate will help to reduce delays and congestion at the junction. The proposed changes at the Fieldhead roundabout are shown on the general arrangement plans which you can access via this link .. I also note in your email to Ann that you have been contacted by several of your constituents requesting an update on the A511 MRN scheme, which I’ve provided below: Following a Public Inquiry which took place in June last year, the Secretary of State announced a decision on the 25th November, that the proposed Compulsory Purchase Order (CPO) and Side Road Orders (SRO) have now been confirmed. This means we now have all the land necessary to construct the proposed improvements. The Council are in the process of tendering for a Contractor to deliver the works, which we anticipate will be awarded in Spring this year. There will then be a period when we work with the contractor to carefully coordinate construction activity to minimise disruption to road users and draw on the contractor’s practical construction experience to identify design efficiencies that could accelerate the construction process. This period is anticipated to last approximately 6-9 months, with construction commencing in early 2026. While this represents a delay in starting works on-site from the original programme, it is expected that through careful planning at this stage, delays during the construction phase will be reduced. For more information and further updates about the scheme, please visit the A511 website .. "

Unbelievable. We need to leave the ECHR. A word of warning to those who’ve said they’re against our quitting the ECHR: leaving is the right policy and has been for years. The longer the Conservatives wait before we inevitably make it our policy, the more untrustworthy the party will seem and the less political good it’ll do.
