#PhD opportunity at @EdinburghUni Background: #geography and #geosciences, computer/data sciences, ecology or social sciences Methodology: Use use of #GIS, Satellite #EO data, #rstats, Python, open-source #geospatial data etc Research questions What are the key services for child health & wellbeing & can we estimate travel time to these across the chosen countries? How many children live within 30-, 60- and 90-minute walking time of the nearest services? Are travel time to key services associated with child multi-dimensional poverty? How do we quantify flood water as a barrier to travel within the CPAS model? What impacts do floods have on travel time across East Africa?

#Geographical accessibility & inequalities in access to childbirth care in the Grand Conakry metropolitan area, #Guinea: a #spatial modelling study led by @DrFassou Our new pre-print, collaboration between @ITMantwerp & @CeaPcmt 👉Coverage was 100% within 30-minutes of any facility, dropping to 82% for public hospitals, varying across communes. 👉 Slower speeds substantially increased travel time and reduced coverage. 👉Pro-rich inequalities emerged, especially in peri-urban communes with longer travel times. 👉Targeted interventions are needed to reach equitable access to childbirth care.

"This #map represents what I know": the power of putting Lubumbashi’s #maternal healthcare services on the map 👉Together, @ITMantwerp, 🇧🇪 and École de Santé Publique of @uniluofficiel (ESP/UNILU) 🇨🇩, we have been #mapping all health facilities that offer maternal and newborn healthcare in the city of Lubumbashi, in the Democratic Republic of the Congo 🇨🇩. 👉Recently we shared preliminary versions of the maps showing all facilities and boundaries (health areas & zones) with stakeholder’s. 👉@JilMolenaar summarized our experiences and the value of working together with members of the health zone management teams in this blog. "Over time, new health facilities open, others close, and administrative subdivisions may shift. Keeping the maps accurate therefore requires a continuous effort, which is unlikely to happen without local ownership" Read more English: French : Dutch:
