@JahangirAsgha10 There is the possibility for awesome results with VBT. Larger, stiffer curves, older and heavier patients, very high activity level, these factors are more likely to result in intermediate results. Are those good enough? Depends on the pt.

This is a different surgery as well. Mini-open, 2 cords. Not certain if there is still meaningful spinal mobility with 2 cords in place, but maybe enough to ward off adjacent segment disease. Glad to see JC Rodriguez publishing his work!

@Davembmd What was the rationale for the difference? And were curves matched ? Or were there differences in stiffness or reducibility?

Agree that 35 degrees is just a line in the sand. But it is the historic number for scoliosis at skeletal maturity that was ‘OK.’ Curves more than 35 degree can progress in adulthood.

I’m also not a huge fan of the absolute number 35 being a metric for a successful outcome…. It seems horribly arbitrary. I know there needs to be a measurement. But if the curve isn’t progressing, the proms are good, and the complication rate is low… does 35° really matter But yes, we need much longer follow up
