@FullCountTommy I like our depth at SP, but I worry about not having an ace. Would've liked that stopper in the rotation! - Steele - Imanaga - Taillon - Boyd - Assad - Rea - Brown - Wicks - Kilian - Poteet - Pearson - Birdsell - Horton - Noland - Keller - Richards - Santos - Kachmar - McCullough

@AClendenin_01 @TheWrigleyWire If that's how the Cubs feel, I'd hope that they would've given him a deadline so he could make the decision to pass on the Cubs offer. But I believe the Cubs must be okay with waiting - maybe nothing better is in the works. I gotta think they have one or two backup moves ready.

@smokiesbaseball Can you do a time lapse photo of the field to see how the shadows will be cast over the course of a day? I realize it's winter, so the shadows will be long right now, but I just want to get a feel for where the sun is and where the shadows are at different game times. Thanks!

@BOSSportsGordo @BNightengale If he bets on himself and has opt outs, he should take the highest salary in Year 1 from whatever team is offering that. If he believes he is regressing, then he might want greatest contract value. I want a guy who wants to bet on himself. You got 3 years to have a strong year!

@BleacherNation Now. Trade costs at the deadline are at their highest. If Jed did his job, every position has redundancy. Better to have the best players you can for the entire year, rather than half of it. Can always trade salary for salary at the deadline, with prospect sweeteners, if needed.

@TheWrigleyWire For me, it's Bregman or Hoerner because Shaw will play somewhere when he's ready. I doubt we keep Hoerner if we sign Bregman. I prefer Bregman over Hoerner quite a bit, but only in the short term. He's not worth $30M most years. He's only the 6th best hitter in the lineup, IMO.

@Ben_Russo @TheBlogfines You're probably right, but if my team can only afford one 10-year $350 million contract, I'd prefer Kyle Tucker in RF or someone at a premium position like CF/SS over a 1Bman. That being said, I'd take Vlad at 10x$35 if he'd do it! Not sure how much more I'd offer though.

Once Alex Bregman signs (with whomever), I hope to see the #Cubs sign Mark Canha as a right-handed backup 1B (and LF/RF). Vidal Brujan can be DFA'd. The Cubs need to finalize bench options that make sense for platoon situations & to complement their near-ready AAA depth.

@BNightengale What was the opt out situation on the 3-year deal? Opt outs after each year? No opt outs?

@brendan_cubs Shaw at 2B, Nico at SS is a strong double play combo. If SS needs to be a weak bat, I'd rather have Nico's speed for the next two years than Dansby's power (which is not doing too well yet w/Cubs). Nico can bat 8th/9th with PCA at the other. Triantos can be a 2B/OF sub w/speed.
