I stressed to the Lord Chancellor this week that if we build more prisons to increase capacity we'll simply end up with more prisoners.
We must examine alternatives to prison for those for whom prison simply compounds the problems and makes reoffending more likely.
@PRTuk
Many congratulations to James Timpson on becoming Prisons Minister. Our prisons are in crisis and the appointment of the (now former) Chair of the Prison Reform Trust is an inspired choice.

My heart goes out to Alaa Adbel-Fattah and his family as his imprisonment reaches this terrible anniversary. As the new Liberal Democrat Foreign Affairs spokesperson, I welcome
@DavidLammy
’s commitment to securing Alaa’s release and will press the Government to achieve this.
Victory! I'm pleased to announce the Daily Express has been required to remove their defamatory story about me and publish a correction. Will
@nick_cannonhill
now do the decent thing and also apologise for making these same accusations, I wonder?
One of the many reasons why London nightlife is in decline is late night transport
Frequency hasn’t returned to pre-Covid levels & little thought given to WFH changes with more working in central London mid-week than Fridays.
Not that the Night Czar has even raised this issue!
Meanwhile Labour continues to be in complete denial about the poor state of London's night-time economy. 🤷🏽♀️
London is supposed to be a global hub for entertainment. Our pubs, clubs and cultural venues need & deserve greater support.
The AELTC paid a vastly reduced price for Wimbledon Park because they made legally enforceable promises not to build on it.
Despite their premature rejoicing, today’s decision has no bearing on the covenants provided
@Merton_Council
enforce them.
The All England Tennis Club might want to look up the meaning of "consultation".
AELTC has refused to come to community meetings or sit down with residents. The tours they've put on, led by people who are in no position to negotiate, are not consultation.
I want to reset our relationship with the EU and make Brexit work for the British people.
Looking forward to visiting Brussels next week to start discussions with
@vonderleyen
.
Very happy to announce that I am running for YL Elections Officer!
2025 will be a crucial year for us to consolidate and build on our recent election successes - I want YL to be at the heart of this campaign, taking on the Tories in the Blue Wall and Labour & Greens in cities!

If you can spare a few pounds please support AFC Wimbledon in getting games on following flood damage to the pitch and stadium. Donate on

After months of rocket-fire and destruction, more civilians are today being killed and displaced. International law is clear that their lives must be protected.
I echo the call of
@TWennesland
for all sides to take immediate steps to de-escalate.
At last night’s “standing room only” public meeting I stressed, despite the GLA planning officers’ report, there is still everything to play for with:
• Friday’s hearing
• Potential legal challenges &
• Political pressure
To persuade the AELTC to engage with stakeholders💬
GLA hearing to decide on AELTC's planning application to build on Wimbledon Park, Metropolitan Open Land, to be held on 27 September 2024 - Join the Demonstration!
Also a public Meeting at St. Barnabas Church on 23rd September.

I hope it’s not as bad as it looks but if
@AFCWimbledon
need help fulfilling their home fixtures over the next few weeks I hope
@CPFC
will offer them Selhurst Park.
With extreme weather events on the increase it’s crucial we maintain our defences.
I was talking to residents in Merton this weekend who are rightly concerned about the failure to regularly clear the storm drains on many roads.
We cannot cut corners on vital maintenance.

Delighted to be made Lib Dem Shadow for Transport.
As our manifesto made clear, improving transport essential to economic growth, meeting our climate change commitments and spreading opportunity.
I look forward to working with & challenging the Government to ensure we do so.
