2023 has been an unusually busy year for Tornadoes. The U.S. tornado count is running well above normal for this time of the year. Oddly enough, Illinois is the state with the most tornadoes so far this year.
BREAKING NEWS: It appears there was a brief, weak tornado touchdown on the westside of Hattiesburg near Oak Grove.
It did not last long, and has now dissipated!
There appears to NO LONGER be a threat.

I got to meet & interview
@iCyclone
this afternoon! For those who don't know, he's a world famous hurricane chaser and has been in the eye of over 50 hurricanes & typhoons. You'll get to hear his story in a special story I'm working on sometime in early November!
Our sister station in Lake Charles,
@KPLC7News
has lost their tower. It has collapsed on their building in downtown. Thankfully, they evacuated to Baton Rouge & nobody was there when it happened. This tower survived Audrey '57 & Rita '05 but was no match to Laura's 150 mph winds.
Here is my story about
@icyclone
! We talked about how all kind of topics including: why he chases hurricanes, his scariest storm, & why he's been living in Mississippi. I had a fun afternoon talking to him! Josh is also a super nice guy too!!
BIG NEWS: I am excited announce that I have been promoted to Chief Meteorologist here at
@WDAM
!! I am truly honored and grateful to WDAM for giving me this opportunity!
BREAKING: The Wind Chill at Mt. Washington, NH just hit -104°F. This is now the Lowest Wind Chill ever recorded in the U.S. The observatory that recorded this is at the summit of the 6,267ft mountain where the current air temperature is -44°F and winds are gusting up to 127 mph!
Please Keep My Alabama Hometown in your prayers. They just got hit by a large tornado. Hearing reports of significant damage, people trapped, and confirmed fatalities. My family and friends are okay, it didn't hit them. Here is a picture of the tornado from Ryan Cartee.
Today marks the 6 year anniversary of the EF-3 tornado that carved a path across Lamar County, Hattiesburg, Petal, & Runnelstown. It was a moment that none of us will ever forget. In a moment of chaos, I was desperate to get the message out.
Hey guys, if you’ve missed me in the morning, it’s because my grandmother passed away late last week. I’ve been out of town for the funeral and to help my dad in this hard time. The only thing I need right now is for you pray for my family. I will be back later this week.

I'm going to bed tonight with no news on Ryan Newman. I pray that when I wake up at 2am that good news greets me on my phone. Please say a prayer for Ryan Newman, his family, & for NASCAR tonight.
Hurricane Michael is now 7 mph short of Category 5 Status and it's STILL INTENSIFYING!! Winds are now up to 150mb and the pressure is still falling!! Now down to 923mb!! This is unlike anything that NW Florida has ever seen!!!
NOT SOMETHING YOU WANT TO BE IN FIRST PLACE: Mississippi is leasing the nation this year in tornadoes🌪️🌪️. So far the Magnolia State has seen 60 tornadoes. Alabama comes in 2nd with 53 tornadoes.
Sad day at WDAM.
@McDanielWDAM
is leaving us for WWL in New Orleans. I’m going to miss one of my best friends here at the station and all the fun times we’ve had on the morning show! I wish you all the best buddy!!
The Pine Belt has been hit again by tornadoes & while we may be down, we're not out! We've been here plenty of times before & we are going to come back strong again! Say a prayer tonight & lend helping hand or chainsaw to your neighbors in need.

One of my fears happened to James Spann this afternoon at ABC 33/40 in Birmingham. While On-Air covering tornadoes, his house was hit by the tornado. He checked on his wife (who was okay) and then continued going forward with several more hours of coverage to inform viewers.
I wanted to take a moment to say how proud I am of
@hayeswx
!! You couldn’t tell it, but Tuesday night was her first Wall-to-Wall coverage of Severe Weather. I think it’s safe to say, that after 13.5 hours, she passes with flying colors!!

Today is Rachel and mine's 3rd year Anniversary! She is my rock & my best friend! We celebrated by flipping the hourglass that we made at our wedding. Filled w/ blue, silver, & white sand that symbolize God, Rachel, & me. Just as the sand mixes, so do our love & lives together!
The Tonga Island Volcanic eruption was so violent, that it created a shockwave that is currently circling the globe.
That shockwave was observed at the Hattiesburg Airport this morning at 7:45am & shows up as a small brief rise in pressure.
Tonga is 7,949mi from Hattiesburg BTW

I am so honored to be awarded as the "Best Local TV Personality" in the Best of the Pine Belt Awards for a second year!! It is truly a humbling experience! A big thank you to my friends, family, & everyone who voted for all of your love and support. I truly have the BEST viewers!

Hurricane Michael continues to get STRONGER!!!! Hurricane Hunters have found the pressure has dropped 6mb in the past 2 hours, now down to 926 mb. I'm now very fearful this could obtain Category 5 Status before landfall around Panama City.
I now have 1.25 inches on the ground here in Oak Grove with heavy snow still falling and an air temp of 22°. This is officially the coldest snow I have ever experienced in my life. I also noticed how powdery the snow was, almost like Colorado snow.

Four years ago, at this exact moment, the EF-3 tornado was carving a path across Lamar County, Hattiesburg, Petal, & Runnelstown. It was a moment that none of us will ever forget. It's also the same moment that the famous sign was created in a moment of chaos.
One year ago today the Pine Belt was covered with 5-10 inches of snow!! I originally called for a dusting to 2 inches but even I was surprised by this winter storm!
Today is Rachel &mine's 2nd year Anniversary! She is my rock and my everything. We celebrated by flipping the hourglass that we made at our wedding. Its filled with blue, silver, & white sand that symbolize God, Rachel, & me. Just as the sand inside mixes, so do our love & lives!
So proud of my wife Rachel!! She's playing one of the Party Moms in South Mississippi Ballet Theatre's "Nutcracker." It was so cool seeing her in her element!! Ballet to Rachel is like weather to me! It a big part of her life!!
Everybody, please give a BIG WELCOME to our newest

Hannah is a Miss State graduate & a North AL! She is training behind the scene right now, but will make her on-air debut in a few weeks!
Hannah now makes us a fully staffed, 4 person team again!
The snow that fell here at WDAM is a different type of snowflake! They're Snow Needles! The reason they're shaped like this is because they formed in a colder and drier atmosphere, usually between 26-14°F with very low humidity.

I will always love you Chessie & you'll always be with me buddy.

I got her a pair of Fire Opal earrings, a book she wanted, and I cleaned the house and bathroom (even the baseboards)!
She got me this AWESOME and SUPER bright headlamp!
We were blessed last night. That could easily have been us if things had been a little different.
Unfortunately, our neighbors to the north took the full brunt. PLEASE pray for them as they continue search and rescues. We've been here before & they have a long road to recovery.
Five years ago today, it snowed... A BUNCH!❄️ Between 5-10 inches in many areas of the Pine Belt! You may remember this because I called for a "Dusting to 2 inches." It's the only time I've ever been happy to bust a forecast. What did it look look like at your house on that day?
BREAKING NEWS: NWS Jackson says that Friday's storms created an 80 mile path of damage. The hardest hit area was near Lott Town Road in Sumrall where Straight Line Winds reached 100 mph.
Happy Thanksgiving from Rachel and I!! We've all had some ups and downs this year but, I’m still thankful for God, my Rachel, my family, my job, and all of y’all!

Please keep them in your prayers. I'll post way you can help them later on today when I find out more.

I have the greatest wife ever!! After a rough day, Rachel met me at the door with a big hug & a brownie!! It made everything better! It reminded me of this from one of my favorite comic strips,
@4AMShower
I had a chance today to visit and pay my respects at the the Hurricane Katrina & Camielle Memorials in Biloxi this afternoon.
Absolutely sobering to see how high the water truely was when Katrina made landfall and to see how many live were lost in both storms on the MS Coast.
