What you do is more important than how you do it. Far too often we focus on "how can I do this better" and neglect "what better thing could I be doing instead."

A lot of smart people in the liberty movement seem to go into policy work. But I wonder if this is the best use of their time and talents. For liberty to win we need to convince the general public. And, on the margin, I'm not sure another policy analysis is the best for that.

And I'm saying that what you call "statesmanship" is seldom anything more than an attempt to dress up political power flexes and cronyism as enlightened acts in lieu of grappling with difficult questions about their efficacy or desirability.

I think I see what the problem is with DOGE. When I say "government waste" I'm referring to pretty much all government spending. The entire budget of most departments is waste in my view. But some people seem to think "waste" is a far narrower category.

These are completely understandable stances and really not that big of a deal. But they are wrongthink so of course everyone insists on enforcing the taboo.
