A thrombus removed from the M1 of a patient with acute stroke during mechanical thrombectomy with aspiration, the patient had an NIHSS of 16, was discharged home at day 3 neuro intact ! Stroke is a surgical disease and we are improving outcomes!

I just received an endowed chair! I am very grateful for the generosity of my patient ,I am honored to be named the first “Angela and Richard T. Clark Distinguished Professor and Division Chief of Neurovascular Surgery and Endovascular Neurosurgery” at Thomas Jefferson University
COVID-19 is causing a prothrombotic state, we are seeing more CNS thrombotic events , this is a case of a COVID patient with M1 and A2 occlusions! I want to thank my team for being always ready to tackle the challenges!

If you are wondering why am I posting this? I was at Wawa buying it, getting ready to pay, a guy sticks his card and says I am paying for that! I look at him and he says :” I had an aneurysm rupture 5 years ago and you saved my life! “That’s what medicine is all about !

Watch out ! Everything you eat will end up in your vessels ! This is a carotid , the degree of stenosis isn’t the only important thing but the nature of the plaque is as important ! Here is a typical ulcerated plaque! Looks like melted provolone!

In a paper published on IMGs in Neurosurgery residency in the US , Lebanon 🇱🇧 was on top of the list ! I guess I am to blame for 4 out of the 14 residents! 😁

Another disruptive innovation in Neurovascular this time by a pioneer Alejandro Berenstein, this microcatheter is called “Bendit” because you can”bend it“ and torque it or because it sneaks on you like a “Bandit” ! You can take it solo from the arch and navigate tortuous vessels!
Offering Interviews only to candidates who had signaled the program would reduce the chances for IMGs because it’s limiting them to 25 programs only, while IMGs would apply to all the programs 115 to try to maximize their chances! There must be a better way!

I was honored by our graduating residents last night with the teacher of the year award!Teaching & mentoring the upcoming generation of neurosurgeons is a big part of what we do and I consider it a privilege!I have learned so much from every resident I have trained over the years
Today is World Stroke Day, all it takes is a small clot to block a brain vessel:
1- Reduce your risk factors
2-Recognize stroke symptoms
3-Call 911
4-The fastest you get to the hospital the higher chance we can help you
5-Post stroke rehabilitation is key
@TJUHNeurosurg
Covid-19 and stroke the association is real ! I just did simultaneous bilateral mechanical thrombectomies Left T occlusion, Right M1 occlusion! On a patient with no CV risk factors but Covid positive! Radial was too small went bilateral groins !
