PPD responded to a house fire on Bradley Ave this morning and rescued Apollo who was alone and frightened inside a smoke filled kitchen. Great job to our officers!

Officers from the PPD SWAT Team performed their version of "Yard Crashers" this morning by helping an elderly resident with fixing up her yard. Officers worked in the rain to give a face lift to the home. Great job!
PPD is aware of an earlier post on a Snapchat account threatening an act of violence at Parma HS tomorrow. The matter is under investigation. Student and staff safety is our highest priority. Precautions are being implemented to ensure their safety at school tomorrow.

Thanks to Mr. Chicken in Parma at Pearl Rd. and Ridge Rd. for donating 100 ($10 each) gift cards to our department. We are using these gift cards to reward citizens in the community for acts of kindness or assistance to our department or the general public.
Due to the governor’s orders along with the fact that our city is currently experiencing flooding in many different areas, we are asking that you only travel on an emergency basis at this time.
(3) At one point, two supervisors were asked to join the protestors to show support, which they did. Everyone was treated with respect, and their 1st Amendment rights were fully protected. The entire event was peaceful and protestors thanked us for keeping them safe.
Please lock your car doors at night. We recently had a rash of car “break-ins” where the cars have been left UNLOCKED. This includes 6 different cars that were all left UNLOCKED. Some had credit cards taken, 2 had car keys inside (yes, both then stolen), and 1 with a gun inside!!

(1) There is chatter on a social media account that at yesterday’s protest in front of the Parma Justice Center, officers from the department “mocked” protestors while they were observing a moment of silence to honor George Floyd. This is absolutely false.
This morning Officers of the Parma Police Department, along with members of the Parma Service Garage, were able to rescue this young deer who spent an extended period of time stuck on the ice.
We would like to offer our deepest condolences to the men and women of the Euclid Police Department on the loss of Officer Jacob Derbin. He and his family and the entire the department are in our thoughts and prayers. Rest in Peace Officer Derbin.

UPDATE on Snapchat threat at Parma HS. The investigation into this threat is ongoing as PPD detectives are working with our federal partners on identifying the source of the threat. Precautions have been taken to ensure the safety of students and staff at Parma HS.

We would like to thank 4 y/o Lucas for stopping by today to say hello to Officer McGinty. Lucas had a chance to meet the patrol commander, the police chief, the safety director and the mayor. He also got to see the inside of a police car.
After being sworn in, Liam signed his oath of office with Mayor DeGeeter, Safety Director Weinreich, and Chief Bobak. Liam then got to meet his new police family. We're honored to have you aboard Liam.
Thank you to everyone that donated food and money to our food drive. We collected over $2000 and 2000 lbs of food which was split between the Parma Hunger Center and the Parma Collaborative.
He may only be 4 y/o, but today Lucas played the part of Santa for PPD K-9 Officers Coney, Dexter, Max, and Beny by bringing them holiday joy in the form of doggie treats and toys. A big thank you to Lucas from our four-legged officers! 🐶

(2) All of the officers conducted themselves professionally during the protest. There were approximately 7 officers present which included two sergeants, and a captain. At no time did they observe any officers mocking anyone participating in the protest.

Officers found out the owner was hospitalized-family occasionally stopped by & fed the dog. Unacceptable in extreme weather like this.

The Parma Police Department will be conducting an OVI/Sobriety Checkpoint this evening Friday, August 16, 2019, in the 5600 block of Pearl Rd. The checkpoint will target the southbound lanes and is scheduled to run from approximately 7:00 PM until 1:00 AM.

PPD detectives arrested Lawrence Simko, age 42 of Parma in connection with the March 14th bank robbery of the Citizen's Bank located at 7360 York Rd. Simko is charged with one count of Aggravated Robbery and is in custody.
