Daguerreodons are the most photographed species of dragon ever. These medium sized drakes rarely pass up the chance to strike a pose for the camera, often times following an individual if they know they have one. This is initially endearing, but gets old.
Smaugust Day 13: Night 🦇
In adolescence these batlike dragons actually fear the dark. Colonies can be seen only on nights with full moons in places where the stars shine brightly, undeterred by the light of civilization.

Dune Devils are apex predators of their ecosystem. Cylinders of dense muscle, they are able to effortlessly swim through sand at an alarming speed. Often times you don’t realize they’re there until it’s too late…
Smaugust Day 8: Lie
It is believed that beneath this dragon’s steely gaze only the virtuous may stand without fear. Dishonest souls have been seen devoured on the spot. Knowing the nature of dragons, however, it’s entirely possible it’s just a picky eater.

When Deep Sea Serpents mate, the male fuses into the female, leaving its talons and antennae. These appendages are used to restrain prey and to grapple with unfortunate future partners. Prolific individuals are impressively decorated.

The average adventurer is not fully equipped without a trusty steed. The Foremans Drake has grown to develop quite a close relationship with mankind. By no means fully tamed, these dragons rarely pass up the chance for food, grooming, and shelter.

Smaugust Day 23: Fight
Hammerskulls are incredibly territorial and aggressive dragons. They fight each other for play, territory, mates, and food. Noisy and rambunctious, they are easily avoided. Sometimes they get tired of fighting each other, and search for bigger opponents.
Smaugust Day 22: Fantasy 🌈
Born from childrens’ imaginations, these dragons are perfect playmates! They love to juggle, dance, and most importantly, give piggyback rides. Don’t let their friendly appearance fool you though - they are still deadly when provoked.

Crust Chippers
These small creatures are almost completely blind. Living entirely underground they have complex social hierarchies and can form massive colonies with multiple queens. Often found in Mantlebore caverns they can compromise the structural integrity of their tunnels.

Smaugust Day 28: Restless
Blink and you’ll miss it. Nimbus Drakes are exceedingly fast dragons, clearing 200 miles an hour effortlessly. They are common during thunder storms as they seek out high winds and turbulent conditions. You won’t catch these drakes standing still.
Smaugust Day 27: Progress 🏍️
The villagers had seen the smoke and knew what it meant. They were surprised however when it drew closer at a breakneck speed - their doom ushered in by an entirely new harbinger of devastation.

Smaugust Day 2: Hang
These dragons, known as Drop Drakes, will wait high in the canopy for unsuspecting prey to walk underneath. Once a target is in range, they drop and use their serrated claws to incapacitate them.

My final word for Smaugust is “Fat”!
Blubber Drakes can be found around the cool waters of the north and south. Although they have evolved aquatic adaptations, they spend most of their time on land. They can weigh thousands of pounds, and as adults they have no natural predators
Smaugust Day 29: Current 💡
Aloof and mysterious, these dragons illuminate the oceans as they drift along. Once thought to lure fish with their electrical filaments, it is now debated whether they need to feed at all or if something else sustains them.

The Jesters Fisher is a peculiar dragon. Although they have figured out how to use complex tools, the only things they seem to make are fishing poles and bait, spending almost all their time fishing. Mainly found in swamps, they often travel long distances
Smaugust Day 6: Number
Prototype Number 006’s creator never cited his inspiration for the mechanical creature. Some speculate it was a fire breathing dragon from a beloved video game franchise. Suffice it to say he didn’t survive long enough to ask.

These hulking beasts, while mainly herbivorous, can be extremely territorial. Their abandoned cavernous tunnels are often used as shelters and can even house small settlements! Although, it is best to make sure they are truly vacant before moving in.

Smaugust Day 12: Valid
While these drakes are not very formidable, they can be connected to many larger species of dragon. While they vary greatly physically, their genetic makeup is nearly identical. This seems to imply a common ancestor. More research is requested.

Manor Tyrants are large intelligent dragons. When they encounter populated villages, they overthrow their lords and hold the village hostage, threatening a fiery end if they refuse to serve it. It takes an immense amount of effort to remove these dragons.

An incredibly endangered species, the Palette Drake has been hunted to near extinction for its saliva. Its dilutive properties make it an excellent binder. It marks the trees of its territory, searching for a mate it may never meet.

These slow-moving, desert dwellers split the earth in order to create underground dens. The temperature of these caverns is significantly cooler than the surface, offering respite and habitat for entire communities of critters.
