#BHM #FUNFACT In a time where establishments such as restaurants, hotels, performance venues and stadiums were separate, and often far from equal, professional sports competitions varied greatly from the game played today. During the late-1940s, racial segregation was the cultural norm in many American cities, and Jim Crow laws still ruled southern and border states. Despite these tense social conditions (and 20 years before the Civil Rights Act of 1964), In 1946, Kenny Washington and Woody Strode signed with the Los Angeles Rams, becoming the first Black players in the modern era of the NFL. That same year, Bill Willis and Marion Motley joined the Cleveland Browns in the All-America Football Conference (AAFC), which later merged with the NFL. Their signings reintegrated professional football a year before Jackie Robinson broke baseball's color barrier in 1947! #PWROn ✊🏿

#BHM #FunFact Lonnie G. Johnson, the Mobile Alabama native, invented the Super Soaker, one of the most popular water guns of all time! He was a NASA engineer working on spacecraft systems when he accidentally created the design for the high-powered water blaster while experimenting with a heat pump. The Super Soaker went on to generate hundreds of millions in sales and became a childhood staple in the 1990s! #PWRon ✊🏿
