So I did some more digging on John Pomeroy's Instagram page for concepts of this Disney Trains Movie and found these! Apparently this was planned even before Planes was conceived! This also apparently took place in a separate universe from Cars. More images in the thread below!
I still think about the fact that we almost got a Disney Trains movie centered around the 1930s. I would love to know if anyone else had more information and storyboards on this? All I know is that this was before Metro was even conceived.

People need to seriously start taking diesel preservation as seriously as steam preservation. Around a month ago, the PRR's only Alco C424 was cut up. This was a one of a kind locomotive as it was not only the Pennsy's only C424, but it was rebuilt from a Demonstrator RS-27.
