Oppose CA AB 2034! See Action Alert. Contact the CA Assembly Public Safety Committee before March 12th. AB 2034 criminalizes loitering for prostitution AGAIN! The old law, repealed in 2022, was known for its sexist, racist, and transphobic enforcement.

@HIPSDC Encampment evictions are happening regularly in the Bay Area too. In San Francisco, the Sit and Lie Law, making it illegal to sit or lie on the sidewalk between 7AM and 11PM, is being enforced. Gives the police power to harass houseless people, sex workers and others.

Only 41 arrests out of the 500 were related to felony human trafficking. 415 of the arrests involved loitering for prostitution or escorting without a license. 15 involved supervising prostitution. 11 involved other misdemeanors not related to sex.

New Maine bill ( #1435 ) erroneously renames all sex work as "commercial sexual exploitation." This will give more powers to the police under the guise of reducing trafficking. In Sweden, under this model, there was no reduction in trafficking!

Decriminalization removes prostitution from the criminal law & gives legal, health, employment and other rights to sex workers. While the new Maine law, based on the Nordic Model, criminalizes clients rather than sex workers, it is not decriminalization!
