As a 1990 Cornell Telluride Association Summer Program alum (my class's lecture was on America at the End of Empire; Stacey Abrams' class was focused on something having to do with identity in literature & media), I'm appalled at the grossly psychologically abusive cult environment TA allowed to flourish at Cornell last year & that they let the anti-blackness seminar group self-segregate & a new college grad co-opt & domineer the students' self-governance, & stood idly by while two Asian students were expelled by their fellow students for wrong-think. But this is the predictable fruit of militancy as virtue, & totalizing, painfully simplistic, ethno-narcissistic, racist dogma which allows Cluster B individuals to dominate & abuse others while proclaiming themselves both infallible authorities & virtuous victims. Current radical anti-racism isn't just "civil rights 2.0." It's self-destructive & societally corrosive acid. & if more elders - esp but not only black elders - don't "man up" & speak out, they will ultimately bear special responsibility for the continued trashing of decades of progress in cross-difference relations so many of us dedicated our lives to.
