Shibe began the evening in the concert hall with Bach's Prelude BWV 999. During the performance of Barrios' masterpiece “La Catedral” – presumably inspired by Bach's organ chorales – he showcased his characteristic quality of exploring and carefully playing out a score.

It was fitting that Shibe ended the evening with Mompou's Cançó 6a (- one of Arturo Benedetti-Michelangeli's favourite encores -) in which all of his qualities shone through once again: ability to capture the essence of a piece, interpretative presence, technical mastery.

Shibe continued his exploration of references to Bach's music with Villa-Lobos' impressionistic Prélude 3 (subtitle “Homenagem a Bach”) and some of his etudes: music that glistened on the surface, but in which Shibe always revealed an underlying ocean of complex meanings.
