In 1936, shipping magnate Sir John Priestman donated £50,000 to help build the Sunderland Eye Infirmary on Queen Alexandra Road which opened in 1940. It has served us well. The city’s new Eye Infirmary is to be built on the Vaux site and will open in 2025.
