EVERYONE deserves access to mental health and SUD treatments, and now is the time to push public awareness into action. In an election year, voters are demanding real solutions to mental health and addiction issues. Now is the time for policy leaders, health care providers, payers, community advocates, patients and their families to VOTE and to ACT TOGETHER for the solutions we know are within reach.

“Depression is a pervasive issue that affects Americans across the political spectrum... Policies that expand telehealth, increase the number of mental health professionals and address infrastructure gaps are not partisan solutions — they are fundamental to ensuring equitable access to care for all Americans.”

Mental health and addiction parity – also known as the Federal Parity law - supports tens of millions of Americans who seek help each year, strengthening our families, communities, workforce, and economy. MANY THANKS to Biden-Harris Administration for their enforcement of MHPAEA, so that individuals and families can get better access to mental health and substance use disorder care. @kennedyforum

I have long advocated for evidence-based, high-quality mental health and substance use care. I have condemned insurance companies for impeding the implementation of the Federal Parity law and for keeping people from life-saving care in the name of profits. But as the recent NYTimes article about Acadia Healthcare ( shows, providers need to be held accountable for doing the same. Holding patients against their will is a barbaric practice. The practices described are illegal, harmful, and utterly inconsistent with evidence-based quality care. I call on Acadia Healthcare to make a public accounting of how it has changed the procedures that led to these inexcusable events.
