We just did some math. The return to office plan will add an extra 162,000 tonnes of CO2 pollution into the atmosphere EVERY YEAR. That’s the equivalent of adding 35, 217 new cars on the road. For a gov’t trying to reduce its carbon footprint: make it make sense.

This stunningly hypocritical move by Treasury Board proves that recruitment and retention, and the strength of public services, depends on telework rights. We need a future of work that works for all — not just senior executives. Presence with purpose is the only way forward.

To offset this pollution the gov't would have to plant 7.4 million trees, then wait 10-40 years for maturation. It’s much more sensible to let workers who have shown they can work safely and productively from home, continue to do so.

"Be prepared for a logistics nightmare."
There's so much wrong with the TB's plan to mandate employees back to the office, but one of them is that they just aren't ready. Lots of employees don't have desks anymore and some even WORK ON THE FLOOR.
#HaltAndConsult
This is what I told the government when I heard about their back to office policy.
I want every public servant to hear me clearly: I see you. I’m sorry that you’re being treated so unfairly. I’ll stand with you every step of the way until you get the respect you deserve.
There are many reasons why TB's decision to give the new exec special treatment is maddening - namely their rationale: that telework is critical for recruitment & he will come to the office “as needed”. This is what PIPSC has spent the last 1.5 years calling for for ALL workers.

At PIPSC we support the principle of “presence with purpose”: being at the office when justified by operational needs.
