We understand it might get a little icy over night. Public Works has your street covered; we have plenty of salt and trucks ready to go. If you are out traveling in the rain, please be aware that the weather can change pretty quick from rain to ice. So go slow, and be safe.

WINTER WEATHER UPDATE: As of Friday Morning, SIX out of our EIGHT rental trucks are OPERATIONAL, with two currently awaiting parts.

The City of Pittsburgh is stocked with magnesium-treated road salt, effective to -20°F, and has a reserve of sand for added grip. The City is receiving daily scheduled shipments, ensuring we're ready for winter weather.

WINTER WEATHER UPDATE: Multiple crews have been dispatched to treat @Pittsburgh roadways. Snow is coming down quickly and temps are low. Stay off the roadways, if possible. We were unable to pre-treat roadways with a brine solution due to rainy conditions.

We are actively monitoring and making preparations for tomorrow's winter weather event. Snowfall will occur from 9am-2pm, following that we will be experiencing sub-freezing temperatures. In order to best prepare yourself,plan on remaining indoors unless absolutely necessary.

Amidst a series of multiple winter weather events, we wanted to share the methods by which we treat roadways in the City of Pittsburgh.

UPDATE: we have deployed 60 trucks to tackle snow in the area. Our salt inventory is at full capacity. Residents are asked to use caution, drive slow, clean off your vehicles, make sure your wipers and tires are in good condition and exercise patience as crews work.

WINTER WEATHER UPDATE: Tonight, starting at 6pm we deployed 40 trucks to begin treating our most vulnerable streets.

We are closely monitoring today’s potential winter weather and activating our winter weather protocols to address over 1,200 miles of city streets. To report icy roads or snow removal needs 24 hours after snowfall has ended, call 412-255-2621 or contact 311.

WINTER WEATHER UPDATE: No snow is expected this morning. However, with lake effect weather events, road conditions can change quickly and without warning. We have previously treated roads and streets, and has 40 trucks ready to go in case of a pop-up event.
