We caught a glimpse of Gypsy, our beloved PAWS Asian elephant, as she gracefully strolled by her pond. It’s a beautiful sight to see her reflection shimmering in the water while she enjoys her leisurely walk.

Mara, PAWS' African elephant, takes a leisurely stroll through the mist-covered pathway that goes to her expansive habitat. The fog added a magical touch to her journey, creating a serene atmosphere as she gracefully moved along. #fog #mistymorning #elephants, #PAWS #SANCTUARY

It’s pumpkin season, and Cleo is absolutely loving it! Since this photo was taken, she has joyfully gone through three pumpkins - breaking them apart then running around her habitat with the pieces of pumpkin in her mouth. She is quite the character! #tiger #sanctuary #paws

This is Nicholas, PAWS' magnificent Asian bull elephant! We recently did some habitat clearing and uncovered this large log, and as you can see, Nicholas is having the time of his life with it. Weighing in at around 17,000 lbs, this gentle giant showcases incredible strength and agility as he effortlessly steps over the log backward. It’s fascinating to watch how he skillfully manipulates such a heavy object using his head, trunk, tusks and mouth. #asianelephants #sanctuary #paws #elephantsanctuary

PAWS Celebrates Our Veterinary Technicians October 13-19 is National Veterinary Technician Week, and we can't wait to express our gratitude for two very special people. Lynn Dowling is a registered veterinary technician who has assisted PAWS Director of Veterinary Services Dr. Jackie Gai in providing high quality medical care for an astounding variety of wild animals since 2005. Lynn has been a member of PAWS' staff since 2013, sharing a wealth of experience and knowledge and providing excellent care for the animals who call our sanctuary home. Her technical skills, as well as her compassionate heart and exemplary dedication to animal welfare, make her an invaluable member of our veterinary care team. Kirk Stafford has volunteered his services at PAWS for over 25 years, assisting with veterinary procedures as well as building and servicing our anesthesia machines. Kirk supervised the anesthesia department at the UC Davis Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital for over 33 years. He has also operated Stafford Medical, a veterinary anesthesia equipment maintenance and repair company, for over 38 years. His presence during anesthetic procedures is enormously reassuring, and his selfless dedication of time and talent over the years is truly extraordinary. PAWS is honored to have these two amazing professionals on our veterinary care team, and we celebrate them during National Veterinary Technician Week, and always! This is Gypsy, PAWS' 57-year-old Asian elephant. One of her favorite activities is throwing dust over herself, a behavior that not only keeps her skin healthy but also provides protection from the sun. This natural instinct is vital for elephants in the wild, and we are delighted to see it encouraged here in our sanctuary. While Gypsy may be moving a little slower these days, she remains active within her habitat and continues to explore and engage with her surroundings. Thank you for your ongoing support in ensuring that Gypsy receives the best possible care. Your contributions make a significant difference in her life and the lives of all the animals at PAWS. #sanctuary #elephantsanctuary #paws #asianelephants
