Parents, please check your kids’ Halloween candy! Just found an absentee ballot that wouldn't have been sent in on time for the Nov. 8 General Election! We recommend mailing your ballot back by Oct. 28 to ensure it arrives on time. You may also use your Local Clerk’s dropbox!

Don’t forget your ID when heading to the polls on Election Day! Since 2008, Michigan voters are required to show a photo ID if they have it on them! A vast majority of voters in Michigan show their Drivers License or a State ID although there are several acceptable photo IDs.

Absentee ballots go through a lot! After a voter applies, the signature is compared to the voter profile. If the signature matches, a ballot is mailed. Once it is returned, the signature is compared again and it is stored securely and processed on Election Day

We received 15 new pieces of election equipment to help our local clerks prepare for the increase in absentee voting! Countywide our clerks have already received over 17,000 applications with more coming in daily. The new machines will help process absentee ballots faster!

Curious why you received multiple absent voter ballot applications? Third party organizations like political parties, candidate campaigns, or voter rights groups often mail applications in major election years. They have access to mailing lists and want to inspire people to vote!
With canvassing completed, we have our Election Day statistics! A strong majority of the County exercised their right to vote this election season. Whether you chose to vote absentee or in person, we’re ecstatic so many citizens are engaged in the process!

The last day of Early Voting for the August 6, 2024 Primary Election is in the books! We saw a big increase in participation this time around. Over 1,300 more people came out for this Early Voting cycle!

Since 2017, Ottawa County has used Hart InterCivic as our voting equipment vendor. We use the paper-based Verity Voting System that has been certified at both the state and federal level.

Our bi-partisan County Board of Canvassers is meeting today to certify the results of the August 3 Primary Election in the City of Grand Haven! This step in the election process is yet another step to ensure the election was conducted accurately.
Another important Prop-2 change! There's now an option for voters to be on the permanent absent voter ballot list. This would allow voters to receive a ballot at their residential address before each election. To learn more, read here or visit our website
Our elections team will be visiting many of our local clerks in preparation for the May 4th Special Election. They will be conducting public accuracy tests to ensure that all voting machines are working properly. All tests are open to the public!
