The African Union has successfully reduced the size and power of Al-Shabaab and ISIS. Yes, mismanagement exists; however, the past three years have seen significant progress in the fight against both. For instance, Somali clans, which once supported these groups, have largely withdrawn their backing due to the growing strength of the federal and regional Somali governments. Remember, Somali people do not operate under a Western-style governance structure. They were based on clans, and when the Somali government collapsed in 1991, every clan took power by itself, and that is where al shabab and ISIS got the advantage It would be a dangerous mistake if the US government abandoned rebuilding Somalia's institutions or allies with one clan. Al-Shabaab and ISIS are very weak now. It may regain again if Somalia does not receive continued support. Strengthening the federal government, particularly in intelligence gathering and surveillance, because it aligns with U.S. strategic interests in the region. Mogadishu is a key player in East Africa’s economic network. A young Somali leaving Mogadishu may travel as far as the Democratic Republic of Congo, engaging in trade. Somalis dominate small business activity across Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, South Sudan, and Congo—especially in the energy sector. Somali-speaking drivers handle a significant portion of goods transported between Kenya and Congo, and Somalis are the second-largest ethnic group in the Horn of Africa after the Oromo. Their entrepreneurial spirit drives the regional economy. For the United States, supporting Somalia’s federal government is not just about security but an economic and strategic necessity. Strengthening governance, intelligence, and state-building efforts benefits U.S. interests in the region. American policymakers, including U.S. senators, should recognize that Somalis are vital not only to Somalis but also to the broader economic and geopolitical stability of East Africa. Supporting a strong federal Somalia aligns with America’s long-term strategic goals in the region.

In Mogadishu, I've noticed a significant number of buildings designed explicitly for healthcare purposes. These business people in the city invest heavily in the healthcare sector. However, it seems that the Somali government and local administration do not match this level of investment found in the private sector.

I have been in Mogadishu, Somalia, for over 11 days now, and it feels surreal to return after so long. I grew up here during the chaotic period, and I have vivid memories of the city, but this recent visit is unlike anything I could have imagined. Remarkably, I haven't heard any gunshots during my stay—a significant change from my past experiences. I want to extend my gratitude to the men and women of the Somali police forces, along with the entire Somali security forces, for their efforts in creating a safer environment.
