Therapist/counsellor, practising in London, interested in Wilhelm Reich & all forms of psycho-physical therapy. Disrupting my own feed with record collecting.
@ArtyArtHistory
One of the worst takes I've ever read on here. Go and see some live assuming yr just not engagement farming (which you probably are). Smh.
@qunfuz2
Those kinda accounts - classical stautery, philosophical pretensions, "traditionalism"- are ways of laundering fascism normally. I guess we'll see more of them on Musk's twitter.
@shaunjlawson
A great thread - but I'd add that Russia's reputation should already be in tatters, due to its actions in Syria. I wish people would pay more attention to the conflict there.
A Kate Bush/Wilhelm Reich thread:
Kate Bush’s song "Cloudbusting" takes indirect inspiration from the 20th century's most controversial psychoanalyst, Wilhelm Reich. The song is the 2nd single taken from her 5th LP Hounds of Love (1985) and sold at least 200,000 copies.
@lomax61
Yeah why would you trust a load of independent researchers who put together a wide range of evidence from a huge range of sources vs. a guy who peaked in 1972?
@OzKaterji
Max Blumenthal also tweeted that he met Corbyn recently. Showing us who he is, now he's unconstrained with bourgeoisie conceits like "electability", "popularity" etc
@this_is_mallory
There is a discipline called the Bates Method which is about natural eyesight improvement but it's not associated with contrarion grifters as of yet. I got the impression Bates was pointing at something interesting but very hard to actually do.
@chakrabortty
@poltheoryother
Don't think it's true to say that being Head of DPP and being in a hedge fund are the same. The former is a public service.
Surprised to realise I’ve not done a thread on Dusan Makavejev’s W.R. - Mysteries of the Organism (1971) which is a film people stumble over when researching Reich so a thread seemed worthwhile.
@Dominic2306
I would ask anyone reading this to actually read
@PhillipsPOBrien
His posts are thoughtful, evidence-based and grounded in the history of war. And he doesn't have to resort to pointless insults/lies like Dom does hete (OBrien has never said the counter-offensive was a success)
One thing I didn't have on my bingo card is how well 80s industrial has aged. zoviet-france, "Shouting at the ground". So far, deep sustained drones, rolling flamenco-esque guitar, bells and all that good stuff. 4 sider on Red Rhino. Oh and the inners look like Rothko paintings.
@dieworkwear
I'd be interested to see a thread from you discussing positives of the current situation. Not to negate your specific complaint of course..
Thanks to
@dreamflesh
for this bit of radical 70s ephemera. An anonymous republication of Reich's essay with notes, commentary and some fantastic contemporary illustrations
Nigel Richmond's two versions of the I Ching are the only ones I use apart from Wilhelm. I say versions, not translations, as I suspect he didn't read Chinese. However, he had drunk deep of the book and both versions capture the essence of the Changes. Link to PDFs below.
Thought peopke might want to see some of my random collection of occult small press emphera from the 80s. This is how we did it before the interwebs...
If you have a half-baked idea for an online course inside you, I highly recommend sharing the outline in public.
This impromptu tweet 2.5 yrs ago has led to 750+ students going through NSM (and has totally transformed my life...)
The embedded thread is a collection of images and text taken from Wilhelm Reich's book, Listen Little Man. I'm re-reading it, so thought I'd do a thread. It's an interesting, strange little book 1/
Another thread on Wilhelm Reich and his therapeutic concept, armouring. People seemed to enjoy the William Steig cartoons (taken from Reich's polemical work, Listen, Little Man) so I'm going to focus on the illustration below.
Is there any interest in. Reichian reading group? Id suggest Function of the Orgasm as a starting text or extracts? If you're interested please state here, or message me.
I am giving an InterIntellect Salon on the life & work of Wilhelm Reich on the 24th June (details below). A thread on why I've chosen the name I have - Pulsation 1/
The book is about a young boy trying to make sense of the loss of his father but against this extraordinary backdrop of events. Here's an extract where Reich explains his philosophy to the young Peter:
@myles_cooks
I once went to a restaurant (Story in London) where they popped a candle andn some bread on the table, lit it, then told us it was made from beef tallow and we should proceed to dip out bread in the melting puddle. We did and it was delicious!
Pleased to say I'm doing an Interintellect Salon on Wilhelm Reich's life and work, 24th June, 7pm UK time.
I think people find the intersection of the body, the political, energy, science and 20th century history found in Reich's work pretty fascinating.
@IkkyusDen
Good thread but I'd disagree insofar as Indian sources don't psychologise the chakras as is done in the West. They seem more like complex repositories of symbolism.
@PhilH86835657
has just written a book about their transition to the West.
Delighted to announce I'll be hosting an online
@interintellect_
salon, introducing and exploring the I Ching, on Saturday 4th February. All welcome! If yr curious or have questions about this amazing book, please come along! Details here:
“I know that what you call 'God' really exists, but not in the form you think; God is primal cosmic energy, the love in your body, your integrity, and your perception of the nature in you and outside of you.”
@IndiaWilloughby
@oldenoughtosay
Even if one had, it still points out to a strategy with these kind of campaigns - pick an extreme outlier and use it to damn everyone in an attempt to shift the debate.
One reason I find Reich so valuable is his notion of armouring. It's a notion that I feel gets under the bonnet of what it means to be human (one who has grown up in the West anyway) Armouring refers to tensions and patterns held out of consciousness that limit our freedom /1
He felt that why revolutions (and revolutionary situations like communes) so often fail is because we literally carry our oppression with us, in our bodies. We're not built for autonomy or the free situations we fantasise about and aspire to. /4
@joea64
@OzKaterji
George Galloway is a genocide denying populist. He won when the Labour withdrew their support for their candidate after he made some anti-semitic conspiratorial remarks about Oct 7th, so they did't rly contest the seat.
@Efroymson
@NathanJRobinson
Might this be because there's been round the clock footage of industrial scale atrocities due to social media rather than the antisemitism you're desperately trying to imply?
@splootman
I agree it's awful but I'm absolutely unsurprised. The post-Corbyn left absolutely hate him and it's gets madder the closer he gets to power. God only knows what they'll do when he's elected.
Okay, here we go! Me in discussion with the guys from
@acidhorizonpod
on Reich, armouring, pulsation and more. I was very pleased with this interview and I don't think anyone could tell I'd had no sleep! Please enjoy!
@visakanv
I absolutely hated that film. Not least because jazz is BLACK music and making it a white boy motivational video is just historically ugly and inaccurate.
of expression and autonomy. It's in our bodies (muscular armour) but can also refer to our emotional range (character armour). t might manifest as a tense jaw, shallow breathing, fear of sexuality locked into the hips. Reich held that everyone in our culture is armoured .. 2/
Going to attempt a thread on various physical disciplines I've engaged with over the years as they're a profound part of my self-development, touching the spiritual, esoteric, & psychodynamic as well as the sheer thrill of lifting big bits of metal over my head
I'm kinda interested in a Reichian reading of Russell Brand and his supporters (a who's who of the worst people on social media). There's a confluence of alt-right politics, sexual dysfunction, intense INTENSE denial that Reich has something of a theoretical lens for.
Reminder that a week today I'm hosting the third installment of the Wilhelm Reich reading group where we'll be discussing Chapters 2 & 3 iof Reich's Ether, God & Devil. If you'd like to participate, please comment below (I need a comment, not just a like if you'd like to join).
Happy birthday Wilhelm Reich! On this day, 1897 - I'm going to repost my interview with
@DouglasWMiT
here as it's probably the most compact introduction to his work I've done but more threads to follow soon:
A few people asked me about AMOOKOS after I mentioned it recently so, a quick thread.
Amookos was an tantric order set up in the UK in the 80s by Mike Magee. Mike was an IT journalist had formerly worked closely with Kenneth Grant, in the Typhonian OTO.
Peter Jones and his deep investment in Wilhelm Reich’s work (taking Reich's work further in some cases) have been a huge influence on me. I'm sure anyone interested in Reich or simply therapy and the body will
get a lot from this episode. Thanks
@meta_nomad
Not posted a record for a minute. Beautiful afro-jazz from Mali. Horns, voice and those incredible guitar tones that are present in African music (like the antithesis of "cock rock").
5 topics I can talk about for 30 minutes without preparation
1. Wilhelm Reich & Orgonomy
2. Person-centred counselling
3. Chaos magic
4. Vodou
5. The life and work of Austin Spare
Mastermind application pending
I'd like to run a small, one off online meeting, experimenting with Reichian breathwork techniques. If you're interested please comment below. I'll probably cap it at 5 participants, on take payment on a donation basis.
I would like more (non bot) followers! Anyone fancy retweeting to help me get to 1500. I'm using Twitter as a space to write about Wilhelm Reich and bodywork therapies with the odd incursion into music and records.
@DouglasWMiT
very kindly put me on his talking about the life and ideas of Wilhelm Reich. I hope it's of interest to people! Please share and I welcome comments and feedback!
My friend
@AsaMedhurst
just posted this incredible painting he did of "a mutual friend" 10 years ago. This painting goes so hard. It's called "2 Headed Rude Boy".
@OzKaterji
The weird thing here is that this is reason people who knew his history disliked Corbyn. It was never his socialism, it was his instinctive anti-American, anti-NATO stance
A few extras which didn't make into my I Ching episode with
@DouglasWMiT
. I mentioned the oracle bones, excavated in China from 1900 onwards (amazing story in its own right). A direct use of the oracle bone script can be seen on the front of Wilhelm's book.
Buying records everyone else had 25 years ago pt 1. This looks like its been for a day at the ice rink but plays like a champ. ”Montague Terrace in Blue” !! 💙💙💙
I've just finished reading
@anneapplebaum
's astonishing Gulag: A History. Incredibly researched and absolutely harrowing. The attached passage struck me as an excellent illustration of how idea of "Reichian” armouring occurs.
We are like trees that grow stunted, to use a metaphor he often employed. Therapy can fix some of this but not all of it.
I'm sure we've all known poltical or magical people who seem bursting with supressed anger or spitefulness. What you're picking up on if you notice .... 5/
For my own amusement, from memory so forgive any errors. The varying shapes of sigils: original usage of the word, connections with medieval heraldry.
Austin Spare: sigils "charged" via the nullification of belief (his neither/neither), "wine, women and th e playing of patience"
The following extract captures the tone and central message of the book and must, surely, be part of the inspiration for Bush's "Running Up That Hill" (first single from HoL):
A long hunt through the shelves and I've finally located my copy of this magnificence. Mary Lou Williams "Black Christ of the Andes" (no title on front cover, oddly). Amazing choral/pisno jazz. Ridiculously good.
Pleased to say, new interview up with me talking about Wilhelm Reich with the fine folks from Hilaritas (the Robert Anton Wilson Trust):
Please give it a listen and retweet if you're so minded! Thanks.
Pulled this out at random today and the evil synths of Mort Garson seem perfectly in tune with the horrible lurgy I have. If you want to hear the music a virus would make, here you go.
to some degree because of the way we bring up and educate children. He held it arose due to the frustration of primary needs as infants and children. This would include but is not limited to: holding, loving physical contact, breast-feeding etc. /3
Hey there, what are you doing on Saturday night? Why not cancel your plans and come and hang out with me and Wilhelm Reich? I guarantee you a good time..
This Sat (30th Sep) EDGEWAYS presents "Pulsation: The Life & Work of Wilhelm Reich" with Dan Lowe (
@Orgone1
) from 20:00 BST.
Wilhelm Reich was the 20th Century's most controversial psychoanalyst. He went from being a star pupil of Freud's to dying tragically in a US prison...
