Dear top Bitcoin evangelists (see below), I have a question and seek your guidance. I discovered Bitcoin in 2017 and have since been inspired by your brilliant interviews and insights into why Bitcoin could transform our planet and human civilization - and make it a better and fairer place. Day by day, I’ve delved deeper into Satoshi Nakamoto’s breathtaking invention. Today, with Bitcoin gaining unprecedented prominence with @realDonaldTrump as the first Bitcoin President in the Oval Office, a new era appears to have begun. That said, I have a pressing question for you. I understand that many of you regard other blockchains like Ethereum and Solana as test platforms, with Bitcoin standing alone as the unrivaled digital asset. I share this perspective—there’s no second best to Bitcoin. However, over the years, art and other digital assets—such as NFTs and memecoins—have flourished on these alternative chains. Meanwhile, discussions about Bitcoin’s long-term security have persisted, particularly regarding miners’ incentives as the block subsidy decreases with each halving. In January 2023, the Ordinals Protocol was introduced, allowing art and NFTs to be inscribed directly onto the Bitcoin blockchain. This transformed Bitcoin from a “store of value” and peer-to-peer payment system into a platform for cultural and artistic preservation. Projects like Trump Bitcoin Digital Trading Cards, Nodemonkes, Bitcoin Punks, Puppets, and Pizza Ninja have emerged, and over 82 million inscriptions (Bitcoin NFTs) have been recorded, generating billions in fees and bolstering miners’ incentives. Additionally, following the April 2024 halving, the Runes Protocol introduced memecoins directly onto Bitcoin. Tokens like $DOG, $PUPS, and $BDC have created substantial activity, again contributing billions in miner fees and further enhancing Bitcoin’s security model. Here’s my question: Do you see these developments—bringing NFTs, art, and memecoins onto Bitcoin—as a positive evolution that strengthens its security and broadens its appeal? Or do you believe Bitcoin should remain “pure” and avoid these markets entirely - thus, leaving it to "ruggable" testchains like ETH and Solana? Personally, I appreciate how these changes provide additional revenue for miners and attract new users to Bitcoin with varied interests. However, I would deeply value your perspectives.
