Consider taking advantage of tax-free shopping on qualifying ENERGY STAR products during Shop Maryland Energy Weekend, February 15-17. The following products bearing the ENERGY STAR label, purchased in-store or online, will be exempt from the state's sales tax: heat pumps, air conditioners, washers and dryers, standard-size refrigerators, furnaces, boilers, compact fluorescent light bulbs, dehumidifiers, and programmable thermostats. Update on the Maryland Piedmont Reliability Project! On December 31, 2024, PSEG Renewable Transmission LLC submitted an application for a Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity (CPCN) to build the Maryland Piedmont Reliability Project (MPRP). This project is a 67-mile-long power line that will go through parts of Baltimore, Carroll, and Frederick counties in Maryland. The power line will carry 500 kV of electricity. When someone wants to build or change a power plant, solar power generation, or high-voltage power lines, they need permission from the Public Service Commission (PSC). To begin construction on their project, they need to go through the Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity (CPCN) process, which includes hearings in front of the PSC and public comment on the project. The CPCN process typically takes around 388 days. To learn more about the CPCN process check out the PSC’s website:
