Remembering this moment. Shoma had every right to be in the moment and celebrate his second place here (and being the only non US man to beat Nathan since 2018 ) but he had the presence of mind to show kindness to someone who who’d had a very bad competition.
Anton Sikharulidze: “It’s important for foreign athletes to be able to compete with our skaters, to see what real skating looks like.”

Everyone may I present the skater who apparently has “never skated with real sincerity of emotion”. This was Nathan’s reaction near the end of his program after he successfully landed all his jumps in the free skate at the 2021 World Championships. He went from 3rd to 1st place.

is my favorite commentator. Not only is he knowledgeable about the four disciplines, but he does research on the skaters’ careers. I always learn something listening to him and I hope we’ll be able to hear him in the second half of the season!
Alexander Zhulin: “Make an American woman who has passed puberty and gained a little weight perform at least 3-3 clean – none of them will be able to.”

People’s opinions on Ilia vary. But no matter what you think of him, he’s definitely going to make next season VERY interesting in men’s figure skating.
Nathan always said the generation of skaters coming after him were going to be able to push things further than he had. He always talked about the skaters who paved the way for him and now he is one of the skaters who paved the way for this new generation. 1/
Genuine question why is 4CC still considered less prestigious than Euros? You have the Japanese singles skaters, Jun, the South Korean women and the North American ice dancers. Considering the amount of POC skaters that compete at 4CC compared to Euros that perception is a yikes.
Wishing the Olympic Champion a happy birthday! 🥳 Nathan, thank you for the joy and comfort your skating has brought me over the years. I’m so happy your dream of winning the Olympics came true. I wish for many other dreams to come true for you as well.

Ava switched her air position to Nathan seatbelt arm😳 There aren't many skaters who do that with the right arm above the left. Her jumps look great!
Apparently Matthew Samuels, the lone entry from Africa for 4CC, withdrew. So we have three continents competing at Four Continents on a fifth continent. Figure skating in Covid times indeed.
Why do people always resort to ableist slurs when criticizing Shoma? If you don’t like him fine, but it’s really disgusting to see people make fun of his height which is something he has no control over. He was born prematurely. Also, why is being short a bad thing?
Reminder that Bradie and Rika, both the top ladies in their federations, got career-threatening injuries because they were trying to increase their jump difficulty to keep up with skaters who were being drugged by their team.
Why is Ilia nominated? Not shading him, but he’s at the beginning of his senior career and it’s not comparable to two Olympians who have multiple world titles. Whatever people may think of Shoma at least his inclusion makes sense.
The best of the best. ✨

OMG Skate Canada is getting ROASTED on their Instagram account about nationals attendance, the quality of the stream, and the state of singles skating in Canada.
On February 8, 2022 at the Beijing Winter Olympics, Nathan Chen set a new world record in the men’s figure skating short program with a score of 113.97.
Another thing they need to think about with the future of the SOI US tour is going beyond skaters that have won major titles, but that can bring in a more diverse audience. Starr Andrews has been on national talkshows/news and had a Terry Crews commercial…
Very proud of Ava for earning a new personal best with 201 and keeping her nerves together! A 4th place finish with a score of over 200 at her first championship event is fantastic. I can’t wait to see her next season when she’s had more time to settle into her coaching change!
Annoyed that Lindsay isn’t part of the conversation for the national title. All the commentators say “it’s between Isabeau and Amber” but Lindsay’s SB is 10 points higher than Amber’s and 8 points higher than Isabeau’s score at GPF. She is in the mix!
Has it occurred to people that we’re not actually meant to like every skater? There are some skaters who I don’t connect with at all, but I recognize that they have their own unique voice and I am glad that others enjoy them.
Gentle reminder that Morisi Kvitelashvili didn't simply attempt to land a 4T, he tried to land *his* version of the 4T, with toepick-free entry and as part of a choreographically baffling program. Morisi’s 4T wasn't simply a jump, it was a concept.
Gentle reminder that Yuzuru Hanyu didn't simply attempt to land a 4A, he tried to land *his* version of the 4A, with back-counter entry and as part of a choreographically challenging programme. Yuzu's 4A wasn't simply a jump, it was a concept.
Anaelle Kouevi and Yann Homawoo's costumes are gorgeous!! Her flower mathing his bowtie!! The bracelet matching the dress!! The fabric edging her armholes matching his shirt!! I live for these details!!
Sorry, but if you thought it was fine to make fun of Nathan for appearing on a dance show then you don’t get to complain about people commenting on Y’s TikTok videos. And anyway, neither of these men gives a shit.
Everyone it’s time for the final

. Thank you all for reminiscing with me about this program we wish we could have seen more of in competition! And now, the beginning of the choreo sequence times four.

Newsflash: it’s normal not to do quads in an ice show. Nathan isn’t the only one who doesn’t. Also he’s not competing next season anyway so why does it matter? The man deserves to let his body rest and his hip heal.
I love that for months we were speculating and wondering who this guy was and then we found out it was Nathan’s personal trainer who helped him navigate his injuries. 🥺
I honestly had made my peace with Alysa leaving skating behind, back when they retired because I wanted them to be happy. But I am beyond pleasantly surprised and thrilled they are returning.
“We ended up rooming in 2013 at our first Junior Grand Prix together, I’m a significant extrovert and he’s the opposite, and it developed into an adopted-little-brother kind of vibe,” Baker said.
😂Love this dynamic between Nathan and Jean-Luc. Introverts need to be adopted!
How can somebody be so insecure about the accomplishments of a two-time Olympic champion and living legend who has more fans than any other figure skater in the world that they have to taunt the fans of another skater? It doesn’t make any sense.
The way he resurrected the quad lutz triple toe combo we hadn’t seen since 2018 for this Olympic season and then backloaded it. I think it will be a long time before we see another skater backload this combo in a short program.

There are many metrics and stats to measure success in this sport. Yuzu not have back to back world titles doesn’t take away from his incredible success. But defending a world title is also a great achievement and should not be dismissed.
why did winning back to back worlds even start a discourse, it's certainly not a measure of success. none of the skaters who achieved super grand slams (kim yuna, yuzuru hanyu, sui/han and virtue/moir) have back to back wins at worlds, it's a non issue 🧍♀️
Biggest point gap after the SP at US nationals is not something that’s ever been tracked as a record. What a misleading headline. Both Nathan and Vincent have higher SP scores at nationals by the way.
