I wouldn't be surprised if his dad picked crops though. That used to be a common summer job for teens. Most states used to allow kids to do that younger than other jobs, and for more hours a week, so many of us did it. Not the impression Mackie tried to give, since the same kids who did that often still went to college, and who did or didn't pick crops was based on proximity to farms rather than race.

@Mrgunsngear I'm not positive the actually asked to come in the way that they are supposed to. They aren't just supposed to show up at the door. Usually they would schedule an appointment and I'm not sure they even tries that.

NG runs more towards the Hollywood age range. NG typically enlists to a specific company and gets promoted only when slots open in that company. There are also a lot of "technician" jobs (full-time civilian jobs for the NG; mostly, mechanics and supply) that require a certain grade in the NG. So promotion slots only open when someone else leaves the company, and many NG soldiers just refuse promotion to stay in their "civilian" job.

@bendreyfuss A lot of people on the "right" feel the same on that. I'm not sure what the exact portion is, but the GOP has a pretty broad coalition right now. I'm encouraged by how much the anti-war right pushed back on the "Gaza takeover" plan.

@AngelaBelcamino Absolutely. I'm starting to think that the Democrat Policy makers really need to be banned from setting foot in NYC, LA, or DC, because they really don't seem to understand the ½ of the country that voted against them. They need to start interacting with different people.

It took them since 1921 to build it, so it's not something they could put back in 1 term. There should be changes to stop it from happening again, but it took us over a century of steadily building unaccountable bureaucracy to get here. If enough damage is done to the networks now, they'll need to start over.

@CynicalPublius So far it seems like the GOP establishment has the good sense to just let MAGA burn it all down in hopes that it happens fast enough to burn their connections. Delaying it will give time for actual criminal investigations instead of just "This looks suspicious. Get rid of it."
