NEWS RELEASE: ODJFS Finalizing System Updates to Allow More than 95,000 Additional Ohioans to Begin Claiming Unemployment Benefits This Weekend
FULL DETAILS:
“We will soon begin notifying individuals who may qualify to instruct them how to apply. We are happy that we can offer this extra support for Ohioans who are unemployed through no fault of their own and who are having difficulty finding work.” - ODJFS Director Kimberly Hall
PUA Pre-Registration will end on May 5 with the full application to launch later this week. Already signed up? You’ll receive an email to complete your application. Need to apply? We’re putting the final touches on the new website to serve you quickly once it is online soon.
PUA will provide up to 39 weeks of benefits to many who historically have not qualified for unemployment benefits, such as self-employed workers, 1099 tax filers, part-time workers, and those who lack sufficient work history. Learn more here:

today in announcing Ohio is paying off $1.5B it borrowed from the U.S. government to pay pandemic unemployment claims. Employers won't face a tax increase, leaving them more money to reinvest in their business.
📢The additional 29 weeks of PUA will be available to all eligible claimants by April 9. To minimize disruptions during core hours, the PUA system will be unavailable 7pm-7am weekdays and 5-12pm weekends April 2-9. Claimants will receive an email when the weeks have been added.
