Really fascinating talk by @cocteautriplets at the @OldEdinClub tonight. I certainly left knowing much more than I did before. Edinburgh is such a fabulous city with literal layers of history.

@PartyArbeiter @swardley There was a paper I read years ago that argued, with some justification, that recognised “best practice” is, at best, standard industry practice in as much as by the time it has sufficient adoption to be “best practice” the actual best practice had evolved.

@Adam_SH69 I’m sure that there is a dictionary definition, and a political one. I consider expats as being people who are posted overseas to work by their employer. This could be for a long time. An immigrant is someone choosing to go to a country to work for themselves or others or stay.

@foxtrot707 @TransformScot @scotgov That’s good to know. Glad that things have improved. I used to be a weekly traveller to London by train but got tired of trains being cancelled at Newcastle and losing my seat reservation. Now, if it could just be quicker and cheaper, I’d switch from flying.

Really glad to see Strategic Vision and Communication being called out as key skills alongside Technical Knowledge. Too often I see great technical proposals failing because the vision doesn’t align, or worse there is no compelling narrative.

@CllrScottArthur Suggest that they look to their own service in central London, where a van parks in a loading bay and packages are loaded onto a barrow and walked to their destination. Common for many delivery companies in city centres.

Complete fuck up for @ScotRail at Glasgow Queen Street. The delayed 2015 train arrives, and departs with no announcement, while the screen says the next trains is 2045. Confusion, people going through the barrier only to be turned back. Poor show. You can apologise all you like.
