Transparency builds trust. That is why Secretary of State @FrankLaRose championed the landmark DATA Act to standardize and publish Ohio election data for independent review. This week, our office announced the full implementation of this legislation — and people are taking notice!

Happy Black History Month! Over the next few weeks, we look forward to highlighting historical black elected officials in Ohio. To start, Ohio’s first African American admitted to the Ohio Bar and first African American elected to government office in the United States, John Mercer Langston! Langston won the Clerk of Brownhelm Township office on April 2, 1855! After his time as clerk, he became one of the founding members of the National Equal Rights League and was later elected as its first president. Learn more about John Mercer Langston here:

Happy birthday USO! Thank you for being the bridge connecting our brave servicemembers to their friends, families, and homes. Whether it is helping our service members overseas vote, or encouraging them to answer the "Second Call of Duty" by being poll workers when they come, we share their mission in providing support and resources to our nation's heroes.

Happy birthday to the 25th President of the United States, and Ohio native, William McKinley! Born in Niles, McKinley later moved to Canton where he won his first election in 1869 as Prosecuting Attorney of Stark County. Did you know that the state flower, the Scarlet Carnation, was chosen in honor of McKinley? Happy birthday!
