Today is the 20th anniversary of the first oesophageal cancer support group in NI from which OGCancerNI has grown out of. Today we are so thankful to Roy McMullan for setting up the first meeting and we are celebrating with cake! It is amazing to see how far we have come.

Delighted that Dr Mainie has announced the roll-out of ESD at Belfast City Hospital - a new surgical procedure for the treatment of patients with early stomach, oesophageal and colorectal tumours. Everyone who supported us made this happen. Thank you.

Statistics show that only 9.6% of the Oesophageal and Gastric cancer patients in NI were diagnosed at the early stage. This is very worrying. There are many more options for treating OG Cancer at the early stage. #catchitearly #persistent heartburn #difficulty swallowing

The UK & Ireland have the highest rates of OG Cancer and yet we still have some of the lowest survival rates. Thankyou @dr_turk for reminding us of the size of the challenge. We truly hope that this campaign will change these statistics. This is where our motivation comes from.

Bobby Watson talking to us about how he received his diagnosis. He came across a tv interview discussing OG cancer and recognised the symptoms. He told his GP this who then referred him for an endoscopy. Without this interview Bobby might not have caught his cancer early....

A year ago OGCancerNI funded a -80 freezer for the storage of blood samples for cancer research purposes. OG cancer are pleased that the freezer will be used, on a temporary basis, to store Covid-19 vaccine. This move will not have any impact on the treatment of cancer patients.
