My dream is to build a Qur'an school in every inner city. Produce young black boys who aspire to be masters of the 10 recitations of Qur'an instead of rappers.
How to memorize one page of Qu'ran
Divide the page into 3 parts.
Recite each part 50 times.
25 times looking at it.
25 times not looking at it.
Once completed recite the entire page 50 times.
25 times looking at it 25 times. not looking at it.
My oldest son Azhar. Currently studying in Tarim, fluent in Arabic, memorized half of the Qur'an and is on his way to becoming a hafidh of Qur'an. This is the future of African American Muslim scholarship in the West.

I noticed that the people on social media who actually studied are very low key and don't cause fitnah. The people with no knowledge, no books memorized, and no teachers make the most noise and cause the most fitnah.
A huge part of knowledge is remaining silent on issues that do not concern you.
Keep your heart busy with khair and reflecting on Allah, not with what others are saying and doing.
It's not only about memorizing the Qurʾān and reciting with good Tajwīd. The Qur'an will actually be against you on the day of judgment if you don't embody prophetic character. Your melodious voice won't save you if you mistreated people in this life.
This is a Mushaf that has been divided into 6 parts, each part consisting of 5 juz of Qur'an. The purpose of this is to complete a full reading of the Qur'an every 6 days.
Whenever I'm having a hard time in my life, I call my grandmother, she was the first Muslim in our family. She always says, pray salatul Haja (prayer of fulfillment of a need or desire). She says dont leave it until you get what you need from Allah.
I used to think that an opening in knowledge meant that Allah would bless you with a photographic memory or something like this. I realized after some time that an opening in knowledge means Allah blessed you to act upon everything you learned.
One of my teachers in Tarim told me that if you're finding it difficult waking up for fajr recite surah Yasin 14 times before you sleep at night. It will remove whatever is preventing you from waking up.
It's not about memorizing, it's about reciting the Qu'ran with good Tajwid and making people fall in love with the Qu'ran. Encourage your children to learn how to recite the Qu'ran properly and let them know everything that they want is obtainable through the khatam of Qu'ran.
Good manners is the foundation of this religion. Being kind to people even when they mistreat you is the Prophetic way.
Allah says: The servants of the Most Merciful are those who walk upon the earth easily, and when the ignorant address them harshly, they say words of peace.
My advice for the hours between Asr and Magrib on the first night of Ramadan is to recite surah Yaseen with the intentions of welcoming Ramadan. Make sincere intentions to welcome the month of the Qur'an via the recitation of heart of the Qur'an.
We don't learn Tajwīd so that we can post our recordings on social media. We learn Tajwīd so that when we wake up during the last 3rd of the night we recite the Qur’an with everything we have inside of us.
With the intentions.... This is for you alone Allah.
Don't break students when they come to recite to you. Don't point out all of their mistakes. Be gentle with them and make them see they have the ability to improve their recitation of the Qur'an. The Prophetic way is a way of mercy.
If all you can do is recite 1 page of Qur'an every day then do so, but after you complete that page pray two rakats of shukr (gratitude) and ask Allah to increase you.
It may take some time to build up, but you'll get that relationship with the Qur'an you're yearning for.
One of the Habits of Umar Ibn al Khataab R.A when he was the khalifa was to gather a group of the sahaba R.A after praying Fajr, sit & recite portions of the Qur'an and discuss the meanings of the ayats.
May Allah bless us to revive this practice in our homes.
Use the Qur'an to subjugate the Dunya.
1. Marriage problems- recite surah Baqarah & ali Imran in the house everyday.
2. Financial issues- recite surah Waqia.
3. You have a need- recite surah Yasin morning & evening.
Our power is in reciting the speech of Allah swt.
My shayk in Qur'an told me to stop eating out. I immediately listened, and I can see a difference in my spiritual state. Eating halal food from a source that isn't Tayyib has a major effect on you even if you don't perceive it.
One of the greatest achievements for the human being to accomplish is having good manners at all times and in every state.
On the day of judgement you will not be asked how people treated you, but you will be asked how you treated people.
The best of us are not those who increased in worship, but rather the best of us are those who have left commiting sins for the sake of Allah swt.
May we leave this month reformed, staying away from sins, devoted to obedience to Allah.
When Allah wants good for you he sends you calamities. It is through calamities that we rise in rank and become closer to Allah swt.
فَاصْبِرْ صَبْرًا جَمِيلًا
I don't know if anyone else can feel it, but this Ramadan has so much Barakah in it. I might be emotional because I just had my first cup of coffee but man this Ramadan is really special.
One of my teachers informed me that a remedy for constant satanic whispers is to empty your stomach and recite the Qur'an.
Fast Mondays & Thursdays.
Recite surah Yaseen in the morning, surah Waqia after Asr, surah Mulk and surah Sajda after Isha.
We are witnessing is a generation that has never received tarbiyya. Everything they say and do is rooted in their lower desires. Our homes have to become places that cultivate prophetic character.
When I was studying in Egypt one of my teachers told me if you go one night without studying, make tawba, this was the sunnah of Imam Abu Hanifa, Imam Malik, Imam Shafi, and Imam Ahmad.
If you ever feel disconnected from Allah make Wudu, wear your best clothes, face the qibla, and send salawats upon the Prophet صلى الله عليه و سلم for 2-3 hours. - Habib Umar
When I didn't know Arabic, hadn't studied any traditional works with qualified scholars I debated everyday on the internet.
Once I learned Arabic, memorized and studied a few text, and spent time with scholars...things changed.
I see no benefit in internet debates.
When you feel like things are becoming too much and you have no energy to deal with the test that Allah has given to you, surrender.
Surrender the affair to Allah. Don't even think about it once you pray two rakats and make intentions to surrender the affair to Allah.
If you want the Qu'ran to heal you then recite it even if you don't understand it's meanings. However, if you want to be healed and heal others with the Qu'ran then you must strive to learn the deep meanings of the Qu'ran.
What you're witnessing on Twitter is a a generation of young men who learned Islam from a screen and not from scholars.
The light of sacred knowledge removes any desire to debate from the hearts.
Reciting the Qur'an during the last 3rd of the night brings provisions for the soul.
1. Patience.
2. Removal of fear and grief.
3. Removal of love of dunya.
5. Clarity & peace of mind.
And so much more
Dangerous times. People with very little knowledge are very loud. While the people of knowledge are silent. Which is understandable. People who have truly studied are not loud and obnoxious. They were trained to be prophetic. This affair is deeper than likes & retweets.
There've been times in my life where I've been emotionally exhausted and the only thing that really made me feel healthy again was constantly reciting the Qur'an. Netflix & junk food doesn't cure you, it just takes the pain away momentarily by distracting you.
If you want to see a change in your spiritual life here are two things to work on this Ramadan.
1. Keeping your wudu at all times and praying two rakats after you make wudu.
2. Praying all 5 prayers as soon as they come in and do not delay them.
Walked in the kitchen and caught my son Isa working hard. Might have yo treat him to a new PS4 game lol.
Actually really happy he was reviewing his Tajwid and searching for examples on his own.
Whenever you're feeling disconnected take an hour out of your day and recite Surah Yasin followed by 1000 salawats with full concentration. Wear your best clothing and burn the best oud you have.
(A cup of coffee enhances the experience ☕)
The most beautiful thing about being tested by Allah is that you return back to Allah. Deep down you know He's the only one who can make a way out for you in times of distress.
ربي إشرح لي صدري ويسر لي امري 🤲🏽
One thing I learned from sayyiduna Habib Umar is that real knowledge takes time to obtain. Real knowledge is not information but a light that transforms the heart.
My neighbor, an older Palestinian woman told me that she prayed two rakats of shukr for coronavirus. She said she was grateful that this calamity will be a means for the Muslims to return to the straight path.
A pure heart see's the world differently.
Salaam alaykum. I'm thinking of doing a one day seminar explaining how to properly study tajweed, methods of memorization, and how to start your journey to the Qur'an.
This will be a free event, open to everyone. Please let me know if the Dar Al-Qurra team should set this up.
The most dangerous thing for a student of sacred knowledge is to obtain a massive amount of knowledge and not have a spiritual guide.
The student who doesn't have a spiritual guide should at bare minimum dedicate himself to sitting and doing at least 1000 salawats everyday.
If the shirt of the Prophet Yusuf عليه سلام can cure the eye sight or Nabi Allah Yaqub عليه سلام then what will the speech of Allah swt do for our hearts.
The more you increase in voluntary acts of worship the more you're Iman will increase. The more your Iman increases the easier it will be to stay away from sin.
Ask Allah to bless you with falling in love with voluntary acts of worship.
If you want to unlock the secrets of the Qur'an fast during the day, recite in a measured tone during the last part of the night, & reflect on the meanings of the ayats. The Qur'an possess knowledge of the past and future, to unlock this knowledge you must recite and reflect.
If you find out someone is hating on you, dont get upset. Recite surah Yaseen and donate the reward to them, ask Allah to place love between their heart and yours. Dont lose focus, the goal is pleasure of Allah, not pleasing your ego
It is reported that Imām Mālik said to one of his companions:
Do not leave your house a lot, except for something that you must do. And do not sit in a gathering in which you do not benefit some knowledge.
Al-Qāḍī ʿAyyāḍ, Tartīb Al-Madārik 2:63
We have to fall in love with the Qur'an again because it is the foundation of our way of life. We have to beg Allah in the last third of the night to restore the ummah's connection to the speech of Allah.
The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said: al Fatiha is the cure for every disease.
Some of my teachers have explained diseases to mean diseases of the heart.
Therefore we recite al Fatiha throughout our day with the intentions of removing the diseases of the heart.
We recite the Qur’an so that we can purify our hearts and rectify our character.
Allah says:The Qur'an is a healing for what is in the hearts.
We recite the Qur'an to purify our hearts and minds so that we may enter into presence of Allah swt.
