What made the original NYHC scene incredible was it wasn’t uniform. Punks, skins, Krishna’s, SXE, pot heads, Rastafarians, metal heads, etc… there was definitely some conservative politicking in the mix as well. An actual melting pot unafraid of ideas.

It's not that simple. It sucks for pop music. For bands with no funding, doing something a bit more esoteric and making art for arts sake, it allows a platform and it's fantastic. Of course it would be cool to get paid, but the first goal is to be heard.

I saw the Foo Fighters in the late 90's, they legit great. I didn't hate the probot thing, but the dude has devolved into a radio rock, public relations, disney caricature of punk rock. I think it bothers me because I know he could be better. I want to fight him still.
