(Non Hypixel / Hytale related ramble below) Long ago, I used to do event work. Stage content & organising meet and greets for youtubers among other things. It's also how I met the Hypixel team originally - a story for another day. This was for an event like PAX / Dreamhack in the UK (called Insomnia festival) This was 10+ years ago , when the idea of a 'youtuber' being a something that existed as a physical thing was nascent. These were some of the very first events that featured youtubers as special guests in their own right. We weren't ready for the influx of people caused by having "Youtubers" feature as guests - spectator footfall at the event went from a few hundred a weekend to thousands. About everything bad thing happened - parents spat at volunteers because we had to cut the queues. Drinks were thrown, lawsuits threatened by parents because their kids couldn't meet their favourite youtuber privately - pretty horrible stuff. Only time in my life I've ever had a panic attack was the come down after one time someone announced on the loudspeakers "SPECIAL GUEST X will do an extra 90 minutes of signing" causing an unintended but dangerous stampede of people rushing through the convention centre to get to the signing area(thankfully no one hurt). Youtuber's were only given room and board, no appearance fees back then, no signing fees - it was simply for the love of their fans and the chance to spend time with other youtubers. Times changed - we got better - dealt with those issues, and the world normalized around this idea of a 'Youtuber' being more or less equivalent to a traditional celebrity. I've watched youtubers come and go - their profession is sadly a fickle one... generational. I sort of say all this because @dantdm has been the focal point of a conversation on a wider topic lately, and I find myself unable to say nothing - because I had an experience of working with him as someone who "managed his time" for 10+ events. He was easily the most popular regular appearance throughout that part in my career. As for those on other side of the matter I've generally had positive albeit light interactions - absolutely nothing I say here should be inferred as a knock of them and their entrepreneurial hearts. @dantdm is a very special human being. He was without a shadow of a doubt my favourite 'youtuber' to ever work in those often difficult times. Dan had this amazing ability to not only be there for his fans, but also be there for all the people that were working to make the event work. Despite the very real fact that he was the biggest "problem" in terms of people wanting to meet him, popularity, etc etc. I would walk into the green rooms, dreading to do the "Walk" - where we had to get guests from the green room past thousands of fans - but somehow Dan was always at the signing area - having snuck in, ready to go, ready to meet. He never explained how exactly he did it (I think he had a mask and a change of clothes), but I can't tell you how much that meant to us. He signed diligently, spent time with every fan and you could just tell that it meant so much to him. You could see the body energy drain by the end of it , but the spirit rose. And throughout all of it - he stayed humble and yet somehow still relevant. Still pumping out videos in the 500k+1m viewcount range over a decade later... that's not something you can say about many youtubers. I say all of this because I think it's a side of him that people might not know... I believe there's another universe where Dan fell into all the things that he 'could' have done - or fallen into the same mistakes that I've seen others sadly make that resulted in their career being short; but I like this one very much. Imho I think this is the best @dantdm in the multiverse.
