What's new?
Auto Templates
With auto templates (on iOS and macOS), you can set a standard set of tasks, notes, and checklists for specific note types (daily, weekly, ...).
Once configured, these templates are

💡 I had an epiphany how I could implement opening notes in the split view.
🤦♂️It was so simple I don't believe I didn't have the idea before!
You can open a note in split view in the next beta by opt+click on a note in the sidebar!
This was a productive Saturday!
⏱️ The timeline on iOS is almost ready for beta testing.
At first you will only be able to see your events and timeblocks like on Mac, but gradually adding drag & drop.
👨🔬 New Experiment!
Filters in the right sidebar:
- See upcoming, overdue, etc. tasks
- Also see events
- Add tasks to the future days without switching the view
- See all scheduled tasks from a project directly in a calendar on the right
- And much more
New alternative icons are hot off the press so to speak.
Available in the next beta/update.
Why?
Because this icon communicates "Calendar" and "Notes" (hopefully) better and still keeps NotePlan's brand asterisk.
Hope you like them!
👨🔬 GPT-3 / AI in NotePlan
The community was faster and built a plugin to access GPT-3 from within NotePlan to summarize notes, do research and more.
My favorite use case: Summarize meeting notes
✅ "Today's tasks" widget
We have been busy working on the web version in the last few weeks. Took some time out to get something done around widgets for the next native update.
Final improvement for the next update:
- If you link to a task or bullet, the sub tasks and bullets will be also displayed automatically in the references.
- You just need to reference the "parent" task, the rest will follow.
Say goodbye to blank pages! 👋
Introducing the NotePlan Templates Gallery!
Need help planning your day, your business, or your dream getaway? We've got free templates for that!
👨🔬 Experimenting with timeblocking on iPhone.
The biggest challenge is the limited screen real-estate. But I think we got a solution! Drag up the timeline from the bottom.
(Imagine your note behind the timeline instead of the lonely button :D)
🍿 Dictate NotePlan what you plan for the day and it creates a schedule for you just from your speech.
Available in the next beta update soon.

🗞️ v3.9.3 is available now!
HIGHLIGHTS
- (Re)Write better and faster with AI - GPT-4 is now integrated in NotePlan
- Voice transcription on iOS - Powered by OpenAI's Whisper with human-level accuracy
👨🔬 Feedback Needed: Weekly Planning
Below you can see the general idea of the workflow:
- See the weekly tasks above your daily notes.
- In your daily notes drag/drop tasks in/out of the weekly
- Or keep them there
= Weekly notes become a sort of inbox
What do you think?
👨🔬 The sidebar will get an update in the next version.
Since we will have Weekly Notes, the "Week" view will be renamed ("7-Day"?), so it's not too confusing.
And "Review" will probably become "Filters" to fit it's function.
Let me know if you got other ideas!

We are going deeper with our Reminders integration, here's an early sneak peak.
How does it work?
Since filters can be displayed now in the right sidebar, it's about "finishing" the Reminders integration, so we can show them by lists, and not just by date.

🧪 In the next update: Besides bug fixes...
→ Custom themes 🪄
You will be able to customize themes, import from other users and share yours!
You can also use any font you want, add underline, strikethrough, ...
For coders: Add custom styles with regex like ::highlight::
Quick and super simple drag & drop feature added for the next update:
- Drag tasks from your note into the calendar and they get cut out of the current note and appended to the target note.
Why we think the new filters-in-the-right-sidebar experiment will give you more planning superpowers:
It allows you to see three main levels of calendar notes in one quick overview. No matter what you are working on.
1. See your monthly goals
2. See your weekly goals
3. Manage
Early folding/collapsing text experimentation for the next update. Took a while to get the code in shape for this, but it paid off. Still needs some work, but I think you can already see something:

👨🔬 Adding the checklist button to iOS:
- single tap on the bullet point icon opens a menu with bullets, checklist, numbered list and quotes
- long-press on the done icon opens a menu to complete, cancel, schedule or create a synced line
Think this should work?
👨🔬 Some more experiments for the next beta:
- Checklists that don't count towards open tasks (perfect for subtasks)
- The time text in a timeblock gets themed
Send images to OpenAI
Available in the next beta update
In the next update NotePlan's OpenAI integration allows you to upload images and send a prompt along just by
- selecting the image,
- CMD+J
- Enter prompt
- CMD+I to send it off to OpenAI.
Combine it with the new drawing
Filter view integration is coming to iOS (beta soon available)!
You can switch between timeline and filters - just like on Mac - which allows you to manage tasks across days and notes without having to open them. Control everything from today's note for example.
- Have an idea
⚒️ What's the perfect system?
The short answer is: The one that lets you get things done.
“Everyone has a plan: until they get punched in the face” – Mike Tyson.
That is - systems fall apart once they get hit by real-life problems.
There is no universal system that works for
✅Checklists are really taking off in the alpha test! I'm using them heavily every day now.
Thanks for pushing this so relentlessly
@dwertheimer

New Screenshots!
Let us know what you think, you can view them also on the AppStore.
We are still working on the screenshots, so you will just see the first 3-4.
🗞️ New version is out!
What's new?

- Backgrounds such as in highlighting words have rounded corners now
- Navigate through folders in the command bar and link to them in wiki-links
The next release aims to make the NotePlan editor more beautiful and easier to understand (for new users and people unfamiliar with markdown).
→ The markdown is going to be live rendered while you type. Here is a first look, what do you think? (Later more on this)
👨🔬 Some exciting experiments: Monthly and yearly notes!
Very alpha at the moment, but the community convinced me to add them (optionally of course) for goal setting purposes and more!
Getting the beta out in the next 1-2 weeks.
🗞️ NotePlan v3.7.2 is available now!
Highlights:
- Yearly, Quarterly and Monthly notes.
- Yearly and Monthly notes have heatmaps to give you a sense of how many tasks are still open.

Wow, text folding really keeps your day clean and helps focusing on the task at hand. So excited to share this feature in the next update soon.
