My friend George Emlen (former music director of the Cambridge, MA, Revels) and I felt that a counter melody to “Auld Lang Syne” would make a nice musical statement as well as a metaphoric intertwining of the old year/new year.

Condolences to the family and country. We were honored to meet Queen Elizabeth in 1965 (“I loved your songs and much prefer your guitars to the electric variety”). This picture was taken prior to my stepping on the hem of Mary's gown, preventing her from doing a proper curtsey.

Richard Blanco’s beautiful, moving 9/11 video of “That Day: When We Were One” is even more relevant today than when first written. The 5th Inaugural Poet in U.S. history, he teaches creative writing at his alma mater Florida International University.
