🧵: This is gonna get a bit personal, but another thing that bothers me about the anti sex scene discourse is that it's so entitled. For example, I have medical trauma and PTSD (I'm serious). Some medical scenes make me uncomfortable. I'm aware it's a personal issue.

I'm not gonna ask for the removal or censorship of a certain type of medical scenes from media because of my own discomfort. Because that's just me. In addition my own, there's a world of people out there with their own personal triggers, which are as diverse as life itself.

Some people are triggered by scenes of people eating, others have phobias, others have a fear of flying and can't stand to watch plane scenes, others have lost a loved one and can't watch a scene about loss without breaking down. Why is your fear of sex the only one valid enough?

My discomfort and triggers are valid, and so are these people's. But my point is, what if we were to remove EVERYTHING that makes every single individual uncomfortable? There pretty much wouldn't be anything left to film. My medical trauma is just an example.

Let's not forget that the "Sex scenes are unnecessary" discourse is not only about purity culture and "morality", but also about media literacy. When people only ask for things that "move the plot forward", art is left behind for the sake of "content".

I mean, why is it the only discomfort valid enough to push your discourse onto people? Why are ALL sex scenes unnecessary because YOU don't like watching them, and while other people are fine with them? Why do you feel entitled to ask for their censorship?

That's because the sentiment behind what (for example) enforced the Hays Code back in the day never left. It's ok to attack or silence those who enjoy sex because it makes u "good" and "moral". It's an attitude that gets you the approval of your peers, of your government, etc.

Just acknowledge it's not just "oh they make a bunch of people uncomfortable so that's why they shouldn't exist anymore!". Your discomfort does not outweigh that of others and the validation of your anti-sex discourse is rooted in fascist and puritanical institutions.

People are emboldened to act on their own personal agenda and are not seen as self-centered or entitled because the anti-sex discourse specifically is not seen as an individual issue, but as a full-scale societal war against "indecency".

They have the nerve to say it's not "puritanical" to think this way, when they're literally encouraged to push their personal issues onto ppl by history; by a long line of puritanical conservatives that came before them and made their own discomfort with sex everyone's problem.
