My paper on China-Africa encounters in the construction industry just went online at @ASRJournal! I show that in such encounters people’s experiences are often shaped by their economic identities—workers, managers, debtors, etc—rather than ethnic ones.

The best part of this book is that its author was arrested for bribery in 2014. The amount involved exceeded 100M yuan. Can any mistakes documented in the book be bigger than this?
lol, what a fun read re. the everyday life of the Chinese government office workers before Xi's time. Of course it's heavily censored and self-consciously performative (e.g. the self-criticisms) but still pretty useful for better understanding how the bureaucratic machine works.
