A lot of movement folks have taken issue w/
@PeteButtigieg
. This sober look examines what so many missed — that he was a powerful voice 4 progressive change.
Critics saw Buttigieg as a sellout who tugged Dems to the right. In reality, he did the opposite.
I remember this meeting and immediately bursting into tears when he shook my hand. I knew in my heart that this angel wasn’t long of this earth. Grateful to have been in his presence even just once. Thank you,
@repjohnlewis

To chants of "USA! USA!," Pete and Chasten Buttigieg greet each other ahead of Pete Buttigieg's expected announcement that he is suspending his 2020 campaign, ending an historic bid by the first openly gay man to seek the presidency.
So much love to the
#TeamPete
community. You have uplifted us in supported in so many ways. Thank you. Also grateful to the folks I’ve met along the way and the many messages of support that continue to pour in. This has been the experience of a lifetime. 🙏🏿
This is what Black folks who support Pete experience all the time on Twitter. White men, grabbing the mic, insulting us, calling us “uppity” “purchased” and “tokens” all in support of certain white male candidates. Careful YOUR racism is showing.
Thrilled to share some personal news ...
New life on the trail begins next week! I’m excited to join .
@PeteButtigieg

NEWS: Pete Buttigieg's presidential campaign has hired NINA SMITH of Megaphone Strategies as travelling press secretary. Smith is an alumn of the Obama administration's U.S. Small Business administration, Rep. Maxine Waters, and Martin O'Malley.

To be clear: our campaign doesn’t buy into the homophobia narrative floating out there. AT ALL. It’s come from the media (and other voices). No one on this campaign authorized that memo going public. And we’ve actively pushed back against it.
“...Black women are not just the backbone of the Dem party, but the bone and sinew that is making our democracy whole...we have seen time & time again...when Black women mobilize, outcomes change, and we need some new outcomes in a time like this.”
Buttigieg takes the stage in Northern VA for a massive rally. He says they are “running on adrenaline” after going from NV to CO to SC to VA in 24 hours
What we’re seeing happen to VP Harris feels….very familiar. When it comes to Black women in positions of power, mainstream media struggles cover them. BW’s accomplishments are often viewed with skepticism. Articles are more like gossip columns than actual facts.
As someone who books clients on MSNBC pretty regularly, I know this isn’t true. I spoke to Tiffany on Wednesday about booking her show that Saturday. The same week she was fired. She had no idea.
It took a so-called

Happy Saturday, family!
Sharing a few home truths I learned in my 15 years in politics:
1. the political world is very is small.
2. memories are long.
3. relationships/access is everything.
4. screenshots never die.
Act accordingly.
Not sure ganging up on the most diverse constituency in the race is the move for you right now Lis. I’d work on figuring out how to address the needs of South Bend’s Black population, and how to get organic online Black support.

Hi! Glad you asked —
@PeteButtigieg
has been talking all week at fundraisers, in gaggles, and in his only major speech of the week about the squad and dem leadership as well as Trump’s racist attacks. I’ll walk you through them if helpful.
“I want it said of my candidacy and my presidency not only that we strengthened Black America, but that we helped all of America understand why this nation is not what we think it is until equality is real.” -
@PeteButtigieg
So today these folks have 1) lied about our healthcare 2) said that we are “purchased” and 3) said that we don’t have Black validators when this campaign employs dozens of Black staff and has Black supporters all over the country. 1/
Check out
@PeteButtigieg
’s “sweeping new economic plan to invest more than $1 trillion in affordable housing, education and child care, as part of a package of new policies that positions [him] as a clear alternative to more progressive candidates.”
To our supporters — we know you love Pete, but fighting with Black folks, telling them how to feel DOES NOT HELP PETE. Hopping into mentions doesn’t either. Follow our lead and trust the campaign to work for those votes. You are not an ally, you are causing more HARM.

Susan Rice discussed Buttigieg this morning on the Breakfast Club
"His Douglass Plan for African Americans is one of the most detailed and substantive I've seen out of any candidate. And I think he's kinda got the temperament and the character to govern effectively."
An emotional, intense conversation about the future of our country w
@PeteButtigieg
, featuring the beautiful Charlie and her art, and a big crowd in the District today.
And this why the misconceptions about Pete linger. What about Ms. Gladys and her story? What about the several Black women EYE was standing with? The women behind Pete stood together as they have this entire campaign. And once again, their voice, their CHOICE, is erased. Really?
I understand the value of the optics of placing more black voters behind Buttigieg given how he has struggled with the black vote. But putting six (more?) in a row on the first row — in Iowa — may just draw more questions & suspicions than change minds.
While the bad faith *desparate* attacks continue,
@PeteButtigieg
is continuing intimate, real conversations with Black South Carolinians. This morning, we visited a Bowman Vineyard, another Black-owned business in SC for a discussion on growing Black entrepreneurship.
“Buttigieg's list is notably diverse in gender &race and includes more people working at think tanks, universities and non-governmental orgs. Vets who served in Afghanistan and Iraq and three college students who are working on the campaign are among those who signed.”

@PeteButtigieg
campaign announces $2M in ad spending in South Carolina.
Starts with statewide radio ad, leans heavily on his bio, tackling systemic racism:
Having lived in South Bend for 15 years, Marilyn knows the values that bring communities together—and they’re exactly the values that we need in the highest office.
Hold on. The Black poverty rate in SB did drop by nearly in half while Pete was Mayor. If you compare 2011 census data before he was Mayor w/ the most recent census data available, the Black poverty rate dropped by 40% under Pete + the Black unemployment rate went down by 56%. 1/
Standing up to white supremacy will ONLY help black people but remaining silent about racism CAN help someone become the most powerful person in the world.
While that might sound sad...
Ignoring racism is actually the MOST American thing someone can do.
That's just science.
We’re gonna keep working, keep talking to voters and meeting them where they are because THAT is what is important. So, keep using your Twitter fingers to pop off. Keep erasing the work of BLACK PEOPLE who do support this candidate and have supported him for years in SB.
Do NOT use black people in gifs to dunk on Black folks. State the facts, be polite and do what you can to kindly reach out. If you are feeling super emotional take a beat, breathe and STOP. Especially if you are not POC or Black.
Times are hard for everyone and this season has been grueling. But we can make it through if we stick to facts, promote our substantial policy plans, and remember to respect our fellow humans. We may just make it out of this primary together and win 2020.
When you are gearing up to tweet and get clicks remember there are human beings behind these campaigns working 10,12, 15 hours a day because they love this country every bit as much as you do. Check.Yourself.
The onslaught online allows misinformation to move fast, but it’s just as important to connect w/ voters who aren’t jaded by the ups & downs of this process. Thank you for listening and thank you for allowing us to have this conversation. 🙏🏿

We know our biggest barrier to Black support is that Pete is new face to Black America. We’re working incredibly hard to change that & show why so many of us support him and this campaign. Any supporter pushing this homophobia narrative isn’t a true supporter of Pete.
Yes, I’m crying. So many people in Iowa and HQ and across America made this campaign what it is. So grateful for you all in this moment. And I can’t wait for what’s next.

Our campaign is built by women like
@NinaSophia81
—and so are our policies. That's why
@PeteButtigieg
just unveiled a bold and comprehensive plan for all women:
Before you lie about our healthcare, do some research. Before you cite our poll numbers, check the stats on your own candidates. Before you trash someone personally, think about if you would want that to happen to your family. Then come see us.
Continuing our day with an intimate discussion with Black health professionals focused on health equity, healthcare access and mental health at Fair Deal Grocery, a Black-owned small business near the Cannonborough neighborhood in Charleston.

While people are spread lies across the internet, whilst they aren’t pushing their candidates policies/candidacies, we are continuing the work. I suggest folks do the same.
Here’s a look at some of the details of Pete’s work, which involved looking for employment ops for Iraqis in an effort to prevent them from being recruited into the insurgency.
